Deadpool director Tim Miller will helm a new show called Secret Level, which will adapt existing video game worlds. Though, for a long time in the 2000s and 2010s, it seemed impossible for movie studios to crack the “video game movie curse,” recent years have seen a surge in successful adaptations. From adaptations like HBO’s The Last of Us and The Super Mario Bros. Movie to Five Nights at Freddy’s and Prime Video’s Fallout, various studios and streamers are looking to capitalize on the popular world of video games.
Deadline now reveals that, after Fallout, Prime Video will once again be delving into video game adaptations with Secret Level from Miller and his Blur Studio, the team responsible for Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots. While details on the upcoming show remain hard to come by, Secret Level is described as an adult animated anthology series that features original stories set within the worlds of beloved video games. The show is expected to be officially unveiled soon, but some titles rumored to be adapted include New World, Spelunky, and various other PlayStation games.
Why Tim Miller & Blur Studios Are Perfect For Secret Level
Love, Death & Robots Has Been A Success
Though perhaps best known for directing Ryan Reynolds’ first Deadpool movie in 2016, Miller also directed 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate. Miller’s career outside of movies, however, is what makes him a perfect fit for Secret Level. First released on Netflix in 2019, Miller and Blur Studio’s Love, Death & Robots is an adult animated anthology show that consists of various short stories across genres including sci-fi, horror, and fantasy.

Netflix takes animation to a whole other level with Love, Death & Robots. Which are the best episodes in its short history?
Love, Death & Robots remains something of an outlier in the TV space and in the streaming space, and it’s been generally very well-received by critics and audiences alike. The show, for example, currently boasts an 86% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 81% audience score. The episodes vary in animation style and tone, and usually run between about six and 21 minutes in length. So far, the show has featured the talents of actors like Rosario Dawson, Joel McHale, Michael B. Jordan, Elodie Yung, Mackenzie Davis, Joe Manganiello, Troy Baker, and Topher Grace.
In addition to their impressive work on Love, Death & Robots, Blur Studios is no stranger to the video game space, as the studio animated the cut scenes for Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo Wars, both of which were widely praised. Secret Level, then, is in very good hands both from an animation perspective and a storytelling perspective. With Gamescom’s Opening Night Live coming up, it’s possible that more information about Secret Level will be revealed in the near future.
