Pro tip: To access the Wix SEO Wiz, first head over to your site’s dashboard. Under “Marketing & SEO,” click “Getting Found on Google.” Fill out your site’s name, then answer the questions that follow. From there, Wix will automatically generate an SEO checklist for you to follow.

Your page’s SEO title tag is the title that shows in search results. To add an SEO title, head over to the Wix Editor, click on the Pages menu to the left, then on Main Pages. Select the specific page you want to edit and press the “…” icon beside it. Access SEO Basics, and fill in the Title Tag section. The meta description is the short snippet of text below your title tag that’s displayed in search results. This tells the user a little bit more about what they can expect from your page. Again, Wix SEO suggests doing this for your homepage, but it’s equally important to do this for all the pages on your website.

Best practices:

  • Add your brand, business, site, or product name
  • Include at least one keyword
  • Describe what’s on the page concisely, and keep it unique
  • Pay attention to length (e.g., Google suggests using between 155 to 160 characters)

A domain name is your address on the web. It’s extremely important to have a custom domain name so that audiences can find your site easily. It’s also much more professional than having a subdomain (e.g., www.yourwebsite.wix.com vs www.yourwebsite.com).

Purchasing any of Wix’s premium plans entitles you to a free custom domain for a year, but you can also purchase your own through a domain registrar like Bluehost, or get one for free with a web hosting plan.

Pro tip: If you already have a domain name registered, you can easily connect it to your Wix site with any premium plan.

  • Choose a domain name that encapsulates your brand (use your own brand name, if available)
  • Keep it short and easy to spell
  • Have a list of alternatives, just in case your first choice is already registered
  • Choose the right domain extension, like .com or .net

Private pages can’t be indexed by search engines. In order to allow bots to crawl your website, you’ll need to make it publicly searchable. However, you can also automatically toggle this for your entire site by going to your dashboard. Click on “General SEO Settings,” then toggle “Let Search Engines Index Your Site.”

  • Keep all the pages on your site public, except for utility pages and pages that don’t add much value to search engines (e.g., category pages and author bios)

In this menu, you can edit the SEO for pages on your website under the same categories (e.g., main pages, blogs, and bookings). These apply to all future pages under the same category, but take note that the settings won’t change for pages that already have previous SEO enabled.

When this happens, you’ll have to inform the search engines which of the pages should be indexed and shown. This is where canonical URLs step in. Wix automatically creates them for you—which can be seen on the Advanced SEO of each page—but you can edit them by clicking the “…” icon beside the tag.
