With more than 18.5bn streams in 2022, Bad Bunny is Spotify’s most-streamed artist globally for third straight year

Independent superstar Bad Bunny is Spotify’s most-streamed artist of the year, for the third straight year in 2022.

Securing the top spot with more than 18.5 billion streams this year, he becomes the first-ever artist to be the most-streamed on Spotify for three years in a row.

The result was published by Spotify on Wednesday (November 30) as the streaming-giant unveiled its Spotify Wrapped for 2022.

Bad Bunny also dominated the charts, with three of his tracks — Me Porto Bonito, Tití Me Preguntó, and Ojitos Lindos — making it to the Top 10 Tracks globally.

His studio album, Un Verano Sin Ti, released in May, took the spot as the most-streamed album worldwide in 2022, beating Harry Styles’ Harry’s House, Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR, Ed Sheeran’s = and Doja Cat’s Planet Her.

Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti, was also named as the most streamed album of 2022 on Apple Music as well as “the biggest Latin album of all time” on the platform. Bad Bunny was named on November 9 as Apple Music’s ‘Artist of the Year’, in recognition, according to the platform, of his “artistic excellence and influence on global culture in 2022”.

Meanwhile, Harry Styles clinched the spot for the most-streamed song globally on Spotify with his hit As It Was,’ which amassed 1.6 billion streams this year.

The hit became the longest-running No.1 single of the year so far in the UK and in the US, it spent 15 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 to become the longest-running US number one by a UK act.

Styles landed on the seventh spot on Spotify’s Top Artists Globally in 2022, trailing behind Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Drake, The Weeknd, BTS and Ed Sheeran. Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Eminem also made it to the Top 10 list.

“Taylor Swift held true to her invitation to meet her at midnight, and it propelled her to become the second-most-streamed artist of the year globally— and the top artist in Australia, the UK, Ireland, Malaysia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Qatar, Slovenia, and Singapore,” Spotify says.

Ranking second from Styles’ As It Was in the list of Top Tracks Globally was Heat Waves by British indie rock band Glass Animals, followed by The Kid LAROI’s Stay (with Justin Bieber), Bad Bunny’s Me Porto Bonito and Tití Me Preguntó, which landed on the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Elton John and Dua Lipa’s Cold Heart (PNAU Remix) secured the sixth spot, followed by Quevedo: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 52 by Bizarrap; Imagine Dragons’ Enemy (with JID); Ojitos Lindos by Bad Bunny; and Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) by Kate Bush, which broke multiple records after the 1985 track was featured on the fourth season of the Netflix series Stranger Things.

Spotify also released the results of the Top Global Podcasts of 2022, with The Joe Rogan Experience securing its place at the most-streamed podcast this year for the third year in a row. Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy came in second, followed by Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain, a soon-to-be-Spotify Exclusive.

Caso 63, a Spotify Original podcast that debuted in Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Hindi, and English, was the fourth most-streamed podcast, followed by Crime Junkie, a true-crime podcast from Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat.

Spotify added 7 million Premium subscribers in the third quarter and 15 million from January to September. Total paying subs as of the end of September reached 195 million users.
