The Rescue Plan money is used for fair housing issues related to the pandemic. In Fla., the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County will receive $250K.
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is providing $2,472,310 in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding. Eleven HUD Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) agencies will use the money to combat housing discrimination related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funds – awarded under FHIP’s Private Enforcement Initiative (PEI) – are the second round of ARP funding focused on the unequal impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on communities of color, low-income communities and other vulnerable populations.
In Florida, the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County will receive $250K.
“While dealing with the struggles the pandemic has brought, too many residents have also had to suffer through the harms discrimination brings,” says Demetria L. McCain, HUD’s principal deputy assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity.
FHIP agencies will use the money to conduct housing education and outreach activities, and to address fair housing inquiries, complaints and investigations.
An additional $3,285,353 in ARP funding will be made available to eligible applicants that didn’t receive funding in the first and second allocation rounds.
