NAR’s Board Meets, Focuses on Fair Housing

Dues remain $150 but the Realtor advertising special assessment will increase by $10. 2019 Florida Realtors Pres. Eric Sain is Region 5 vice president.

WASHINGTON – Strengthening fair housing enforcement was a priority for the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) Board of Directors (BOD) during its Friday meeting. The governing body passed resolutions supporting fair lending provisions of the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act – which prohibit discrimination in consumers’ access to credit – and urged state associations to promote legislation for minimum, universal fair housing education requirements for all real estate licensees.

According to an informal poll conducted during the meeting, the board believes legislative and regulatory advocacy – and the changing role of Realtors – will be top industry priorities over the next five years. Board members also said the biggest factor constraining inventory is a lack of new construction.

Member dues will remain $150 per year. The BOD also voted to boost support for the NAR consumer advertising campaign with an increase in the special assessment cost of $10 a year, bringing the annual cost per member up to $45 starting in 2023 through at least 2027. It’s the first increase since the “That’s Who We R” campaign was launched in 2019.
