Did You Get a Message From ABSA?

On the 10 August 2023 ABSA Distress Customer Solutions (who handle debt review) sent out default notices to some of their customers who show on their system as being under debt review.

These ‘default notices’ were only sent out to certain clients. You may have got a message if their system shows that your debt review payments, to ABSA specifically, are either in arrears (due to short payments) or they are not seeing a payment at all.

The messages are a friendly reminder to you and to your Debt Counsellor to act quickly to sort out any arrears or missed payments.

‘The messages are a friendly reminder to you and to your Debt Counsellor to act quickly to sort out any arrears or missed payments’

ABSA say that sending out these types of notices helps them avoid incorrect or unnecessary 86(10) terminations (when they say they rather want to start new legal collections instead of being in your debt review any longer).

In the event that you have made all your recent payments in full (probably via your PDA) then they say that you can ‘ignore’ the notification.

But if you have short paid or missed a payment then the clock is ticking to sort it out and your Debt Counsellor will have to talk to them ASAP and you need a written plan on how you are sorting it out.

So, if you got one of these messages, either you ignore it or you speak to your Debt Counsellor (can’t hurt to call them if you did get a message).
