Summary
- Chef Jono’s performance on Below Deck Med has been declining, making viewers question his abilities and attitude.
- Fans believe Chef Dave White would be a great replacement if Jono is fired for his poor performance.
- Captain Sandy may have chefs in mind to replace Jono, as his communication and attitude have been lacking.
Below Deck Mediterranean season 9’s chef, Johnathan Shillingford, may be fired from Mustique soon, and if that’s the case some viewers have decided this chef should be brought on in his place. While there have been some who are more interested in seeing Chef Jono fired than others, Below Deck Mediterranean season 9’s earliest episodes have made it clear that the chef needs to make some changes. Throughout the first charter, Chef Jono did a decent job with the provisions he had available, but Captain Sandy Yawn noticed his performance in the second charter went downhill considerably with new guests.
According to Reddit user u/fomo216, if Johnathan is fired from Mustique for his poor performance, most Below Deck Mediterranean fans think that Chef Dave White should be his replacement. While Chef Dave was only the chef aboard one of Captain Sandy’s superyachts for one season, she believes he’s a great chef in the franchise, and the best Below Deck Med has ever seen. User u/krpink explained, “Dave is a great guess since he was just on WWHL in the audience.” During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Captain Sandy called out Chef Dave in the audience.

Chef Johnathan Shillingford Should Be Fired On Below Deck Med
While there have only been two charters featured on Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 so far, the performance from Chef Jono has been difficult to watch. Jonathan’s skills as a chef have been called into question by several members of the cast, including Captain Sandy herself. While there’s still time for him to improve during the second charter in the next episode of Below Deck Med, there’s very little reason to believe he will be able to work his way back to good standing with Captain Sandy and the charter guests. Sadly, Chef Jono’s performance hasn’t been his only issue.
While Chef Johnathan has been working hard to create the best meals possible, his abilities haven’t been up to par, and his attitude has been a struggle throughout the first charters of the season, as well. After creating some drama with Stew Elena Dubaich, who tried to wake the chef to help her with a late-night situation for the first charter guests, Chef Jono has also been struggling with his communication elsewhere. Throughout the charter, he’s been somewhat arrogant and his communication has been lackluster with the rest of the crew. It would make sense for Johnathan to be fired.
With Johnathan possibly being fired sooner rather than later, Captain Sandy may have chefs in mind that she’d hope to take his place if needed. Though Jono could have the time in future charters to prove himself, it seems more likely that he’ll be let go before he can make much improvement. Chef Jono has been a difficult part of Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 thus far, but if Chef Dave could take his place in the future, the charter season could be salvaged for the guests.
