That ’90s Show is known for That ’70s Show Easter Eggs and references throughout season 1 and season 2. Considering That ’70s Show and That ’90s Show are set 20 years apart, it does make sense that there are many callbacks to the original show, particularly to Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna Forman (Lauren Prepon) as their daughter Leia (Callie Haverda) is the leading character in That ’90s Show. While the main love story of That ’70s Show was between Jackie Burkhart (Mila Kunis) and Michael Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), Donna and Eric were also popular for being relatable.

Because That ’70s Show ran from 1998 to 2006, Eric and Donna’s relationship timeline exists from the pilot episode until season 8. Among their many relationship milestones, Eric and Donna have many memorable fights and lower moments, from their fight about the promise ring to their conversations questioning their future as a couple. In season 2, a call back to one of their pre-marriage fights is made by Jay (Mace Coronel) when he refers to Donna and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) by an affectionate nickname.

Jay Calling Kitty & Donna “Mrs. Formans” Calls Back To Eric & Donna’s Fight About Taking His Name

Eric And Donna Once Disagreed About Her Taking His Name After Marriage.

Jay jokingly calls Kitty and Donna “Mrs. Formans,” in season 2, which ironically seems to call back to season 5, episode 8 “Thank You,” in which the two argue whether Donna will take Jay’s last name when they get married. Donna is already not keen on the idea because Jay’s mother, Kitty, is already known as “Mrs. Forman.” Donna does eventually take Jay’s name after marriage, but the nickname calls back to their argument, as both women share the Mrs. Forman moniker.

Almost all the main characters in
That ’70s Show
have nicknames given to them by the group.

The show is known for its nicknames, but in this case, “Mrs. Formans” is a reminder of a time when Donna was unsure of their relationship’s future. Throughout the show, there are many episodes that are big for Donna and Eric’s relationship, but there are other moments that viewers don’t get to see that could’ve and should’ve been a part of the show. With that being said, That ’70s Show is not set over a long period, so for time’s sake, it’s logical that some moments were kept off-screen, even if viewers were dying to see them.

That ’90s Show’s Mrs. Formans Line Is A Reminder Of The Major Eric & Donna Moment We Never Got To See

Eric And Donna’s Marriage Is Never Seen In That ’70s Show.

Eric and Donna kiss on the beach in That '70s Show season 5 premiere.

She may be Mrs. Forman now, but viewers of That ’70s Show didn’t get to see Eric and Donna get married like they were supposed to in the show’s final seasons. In the last three seasons, they got back together, got engaged, postponed their wedding due to cold feet, broke up again, and got back together for the last time. In the final episodes of That ’70s Show, Eric and Donna are not married, and the focus is primarily on Eric returning from Africa to be with Donna again and tying up loose ends in the last season.

Season 2

Season 3

Season 4

Season 7

Season 8

Accusations of cheating cause Eric and Donna to break up off-screen. Donna starts dating and breaks up with Randy, and Eric returns from Africa. The series ends with him and Donna getting back together.

However, it makes sense that by the show’s end, Eric and Donna aren’t married, since their whole relationship is about personal development throughout their formative years, so making them marry to appease the audience wouldn’t make sense. Since their relationship in That ’70s Show is on-and-off after season 3, the idea that they would get married so young is unrealistic, considering in season 1, episode 2, “Birthday,” Eric is only turning 17, and in later seasons, is just 18. Regardless of not seeing their nuptials, That ’90s Show season 2 provides a nice ode to their relationship and how much they overcame to become happily married with a daughter.
