There was only one reason that Jamie Lee Curtis joined Borderlands. The adaptation, which stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and more, will be released on August 9. It will follow Blanchett as an outlaw forming a team that will help her locate a missing girl, though they engage in mischief throughout the search. Many members of the Borderlands movie’s cast attended San Diego Comic-Con, and Curtis was among them.
While attending the convention, Screen Rant spoke to Curtis about her upcoming movie. She offered nothing but praise for her fellow co-star, Cate Blanchett, and even explained that the actor is the reason she signed onto the movie in the first place. While she knew about the franchise and was concerned about filming during the pandemic, she agreed to sign on as soon as she heard that Blanchett was involved. She even likened it to her participation in Everything Everywhere All at Once, which she won an Oscar for. Check out her detailed explanation below:
Cate Blanchett [is why I said yes]. Just literally, I swear to you, we were in the middle of Covid. My agents called me, they said there was a movie. I said, ‘Uh-huh.’ He said, ‘It’s in Budapest.’ Now, it’s in the middle of Covid, before the vaccine. And I was like, ‘Mmm, hm, yeah.’ And they said, ‘Borderlands,’ which I knew the game, I raised a gamer. I was like, ‘Uh-huh.’ ‘Cate Blanchett.’ ‘Yes.’
‘Well, no, no, no, you have to hear about-‘ ‘No.
Am I in scenes with Cate Blanchett
? I’m in the movie with her.’ ‘Yes, you’re in the movie with her.’ ‘Yes, I will do the movie.’ I literally, I think she is… She is, she just
is
, and I was thrilled. In the same way
I did
Everything Everywhere All at Once
because Michelle Yeoh was in it
. I swear. They said, movie, this thing, I didn’t understand it. They said Michelle Yeoh, I said yes. Because these are women who are changing cinema with their incredible work. For me as an actor to be able to work with them… But she is, Cate Blanchett is singular and I just thrilled to have the opportunity to work with…I know that seems weird to y’all, that you think we’re all just BSing you. But the truth is, most of us are unemployed most of our lives. Actors are really unemployed a lot. So when you get an opportunity to work on something with actors you admire, you say yes. It’s not, this isn’t a hard decision, honestly.
When else am I going to work with Cate Blanchett?
When else, what else? I’m 66 years old. When else am I going to get to be in a movie where I play… like an auntie to her, like a deep relationship with her? It’s an extraordinary opportunity, and all of us sitting here are here because we’ve had those opportunities. So don’t think we’re just like, ‘Oh yeah, everybody’s so great. We love each other.’ I mean, I was in a movie with f-ing Cate Blanchett. I mean, I flew to Budapest in the middle of Covid to be in a movie with Cate Blanchett because she’s such an artist and it is how we all are. And so that’s true. None of this is bs.
