After what’s felt like an eternity, Final Fantasy 16 is finally coming to PC with a confirmed release date. Launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, fans who don’t have access to Sony’s console have had to wait over a year to play through the latest installment in the beloved RPG series. Fortunately, Final Fantasy 16 is a good enough game that having to endure such a lengthy exclusivity period will quickly be forgotten when it lands on PC, especially since its release is surprisingly soon.

Per a post by Square Enix on X (formerly Twitter), Final Fantasy 16 is coming to Steam and The Epic Games Store on September 17, which is just under a month away at the time of writing.

If that’s not exciting enough, fans who are desperate to get a taste of the full game can now download and play the demo which is available on both marketplaces. Those who pre-purchase the game gain access to a handful of DLC items including the Brave Blade for Clive, a Cait Sith Charm accessory, and the “Sixteen Bells” Orchestrion Roll.

Is Final Fantasy 16 Worth Your Time?

A Change Is As Good As A Holiday

While most critics believe that Final Fantasy 16 is a phenomenal RPG, the community remains divided when it comes to the game’s quality. Most agree that the combat is fun and an excellent change of pace from the system that was implemented in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but it also could have been better. Even on higher difficulties, it can be easy to break the game and render battles much too easy which can be a fun experience in and of itself but also renders large portions of the game a little dull.

Fortunately, the game’s story delivers as the saga of Clive Rosenfield is compelling and dramatic, led by a fantastic protagonist who’s surrounded by a supporting cast that has some great moments. While the game has been criticized for being too linear and resorting to “corridor exploration” too heavily, there’s still a good amount of fun to be had navigating Final Fantasy 16‘s world. For those who haven’t played any games in the franchise, it’s a great place to start given how much more accessible it is in comparison to older titles.

As great as it is to finally have a PC release date for Final Fantasy 16, many are wondering when they can expect Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to abandon its PS5 exclusivity. Since the game came out in early 2024, it’ll likely arrive on Steam and The Epic Games Store, at the earliest, in mid-2025. That’s simply speculation based on established patterns, so fans have to wait and see what the future holds.
