  • Johnny Storm’s ability to manipulate UV light can depower Superman, making him vulnerable to defeat easily.
  • With the power to control UV radiation, the Human Torch can strip Superman of his abilities with red sun radiation.
  • Superman’s strength is no match for Johnny Storm, who can manipulate different types of light for victory.

Warning! Spoilers for Fantastic Four #22!There are very few characters in comic books who have the power to stand up against Superman. Even major characters like Thor have failed to match Superman’s strength, but one surprising member of the Fantastic Four seems to have the power he needs to bring Superman down, and he could do it easily.

Johnny Storm is a pretty powerful character. As the Human Torch, he’s able to ignite his own body in intense flames, burning just about anything he wants. His powers are so great that he can easily match the surface of the sun and even go beyond. Johnny’s power has always been incredibly dangerous, but it’s hard to imagine it would bother Superman, who has no issue hanging out in the center of the sun.

Johnny Storm Uses His Powers To Scare Off A Horde Of Vampires

But while fighting off a group of vampires trying to attack innocents in Fantastic Four #22 by Ryan North, Ivan Fiorelli, Jesus Aburtov and Joe Caramagna, Johnny demonstrates a surprising skill. He shows he’s able to cycle through the range of UV radiation, giving off different types of light. Eventually, he settles on yellow sunlight, which chases the vampires off. But if he’s capable of cycling through any form of light, then that means vampires aren’t the only thing he can defeat.

The Human Torch Could Easily Beat Superman With One Trick

Fantastic Four #22 by Ryan North, Ivan Fiorelli, Jesus Aburtov, Joe Caramagna

The original Human Torch powering up after being 'dead' for years.

The reason Superman is so absurdly strong is because of the energy he absorbs from Earth’s yellow sun. Thanks to the sun, Superman can easily push the moon around and move several times faster than the speed of light. He’s practically invulnerable as well, being able to shrug off some of the most powerful energy blasts from cosmic-level villains. But the one thing he wouldn’t be able to shrug off is Johnny Storm’s ability to manipulate what kind of UV light he goes off. While Johnny is mostly known for just catching on fire, he can do so much more.

Johnny could also decide to give off red sun radiation, which would depower Superman.

Johnny is capable of fine-tuning the kind of UV radiation he gives off. With that in mind, he could choose to give off yellow sun radiation, which would power Superman up. Johnny could also decide to give off red sun radiation, which would depower Superman. This would allow Johnny to defeat Superman by simply standing next to him. Superman would lose all of his powers, including his invulnerability to heat. Johnny could then defeat Superman pretty much however he wanted, with either heat or his fire-based abilities.

Johnny Storm Is Way Stronger Than People Think

Fantastic Four's Human Torch flying through the sky.

There’s no doubt that Superman is an unbelievably powerful character who can take most characters in a fight. In a straight battle against the Fantastic Four, Superman would likely have no problems at all with Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm, or even the Thing. But Johnny Storm’s ability to manipulate his UV lights would make it, so Superman is utterly powerless. Then, with or without the Fantastic Four, Johnny Storm would be able to easily bring Superman down.
