White Collar Revival’s Latest Update Is A Relief After Matt Bomer’s Unexpected Hulu Project

The latest update on the White Collar reboot is a relief after the announcement of Matt Bomer’s new Hulu project. Years after co-starring in White Collar for six seasons alongside Tim DeKay, Matt Bomer will be headlining a new show for Hulu, titled Mid-Century Modern. But on top of that, Bomer is expected to be involved in more White Collar stories.

Ever since the show ended, there have been discussions about a revival, mostly because of the season 6 cliffhanger. A decade after White Collar ended, it was finally announced that the show would be revived. There aren’t a lot of details about the plot of the White Collar revival. However, there has been confirmation about the script and who else will be in the cast apart from Bomer. Given that Bomer will be working on another project, questions about whether the production of White Collar will be delayed have been raised.

Bomer’s Hulu Show Threatens To Delay The White Collar Revival

Matt Bomer Will Be Starring In Hulu’s Mid-Century Modern

Earlier this year in June, it was announced that a new comedy titled Mid-Century Modern starring Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane, Nathan Lee Graham, and Linda Lavin would be coming to Hulu. Hulu ordered the series, which was created by Will and Grace’s Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, less than two months after the pilot got a positive response from a live audience. Mid-Century Modern, which has been described as Hulu’s Golden Girls replacement, will follow Jerry Frank, Bunny Schneiderman, and Arthur, three gay best friends who decide to spend their golden years together in Palm Springs.

Bomer, who is also the executive producer on the show, will take on the role of Frank Jerry, who was described as “hard of body and soft of head.” Although Mid-Century Modern has been ordered to series, no official announcement about the show’s release date has been made. There also hasn’t been any update about how far the White Collar revival is in terms of its production. Since Mid-Century Modern has already filmed some scenes, it’s likely that it will premiere before the White Collar revival. Bomer’s involvement in the multi-camera comedy likely means that the White Collar revival will have to take a backseat.

Work On White Collar Revival Continues Despite Bomer’s Mid-Century Modern Commitment

The Script For The White Collar Reboot Is Ready

Despite Bomer’s involvement in Mid-Century Modern, work on the White Collar revival hasn’t halted. While Bomer is an important part of White Collar, there are other factors that go into creating a show, like writing a script, that don’t necessarily require his presence. Jeff Eastin, White Collar‘s creator, and Bomer have been talking about the show’s revival for years, so it’s likely that Eastin has an idea of what the new series will be about.

The screenwriter’s tweet also confirmed that the script for the show was ready and would be sent to the studio the following day.

Recently, Eastin took to X to offer an update on the White Collar revival. In the tweet, Eastin wished Bomer, who had an Emmy nomination for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Fellow Travelers, luck. The screenwriter’s tweet also confirmed that the script for the show was ready and would be sent to the studio the following day. So while Bomer focuses on filming Mid-Century Modern, Eastin can finish writing the script for the White Collar revival.

When The White Collar Revival May Be Released

The White Collar Will Likely Be Released In 2025

While Bomer might not be involved in every aspect of the White Collar revival’s production, his role as Neal is still the backbone of the show. Since Mid-Century Modern will likely take precedence for Bomer, the creators of White Collar will have to wait for the actor to be free in order for them to start filming. Given that Mid-Century Modern was ordered to series, production has probably already begun. Mid-Century Modern will be released on Hulu, so it’s likely to only have 10 episodes and will air in 2025.

If pre-production and post-production are completed early, then the
White Collar
revival will also be eyeing a 2025 release.

The production and release of the new White Collar season is dependent on Bomer’s schedule, so filming will likely begin after Bomer is done working on Mid-Century Modern. If pre-production and post-production are completed early, then the White Collar revival will also be eyeing a 2025 release. It’s also likely that the White Collar revival might be released in the latter half of 2025. Unfortunately, fans of the show will have to wait a bit longer for Neal and Peter’s reunion in White Collar.
