Recent developments have seen a pair of legendary RPG titles from the 1990s become far more accessible and affordable. Over the years, many great ’90s games have become obscure, due in large part to a lack of modern ports. As a result, countless games have been left to become increasingly difficult to obtain and play, with prices naturally rising the rarer these games become.
The 1990s saw the release of many landmark video games, including the first Pokémon games, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Goldeneye 007. Of course, many more striking RPGs surrounded titles such as these, but not all have been able to maintain a strong enough presence to remain easily accessible to newer players. Fortunately, while there are many great new RPGs in 2024, this year has also seen a number of remakes and ports which allow these lost gems to capture the imaginations of an entirely new generation.
Lunar Remastered Collection Is An Affordable Revival For The Lunar Franchise
The Lunar series of games were among the first JRPGs to gain a foothold in the Western market. Released for the Sega CD in 1993, Lunar: Silver Star Story later enjoyed a PlayStation remake titled Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. Its sequel followed a similar development path, with Lunar: Eternal Blue originally released in America in 1995 for the Sega CD.

Unfortunately, despite their popularity, the intervening decades subsequently left these games increasingly expensive to buy. However, newly announced remasters have shown that these titles are no longer just entries on the long list of iconic but abandoned RPG franchises.
Until now, playing Silver Star Story Complete or Eternal Blue Complete could see one paying hundreds of dollars for the privilege, especially in the case of a game cartridge complete with its box and manua. Purchasing both games could even cost over $300.
Now, however, a post on the official PlayStation Blog has announced the 2025 release of a new, remastered collection of these two landmark games for the PS5 and PS4. Although a price has not been made public at this time, Lunar Remastered Collection will undoubtedly be far more affordable than playing the PlayStation 1 versions.
Lunar Remastered Collection Includes Optional Improvements For A Modern Experience
This announcement is incredible news not only for long-time fans of the Lunar games, but many younger JRPG fans as well. In addition to this being the perfect opportunity to experience a true piece of gaming history, Lunar Remastered Collection features an array of improvements to bring these classic games into the modern age.
These include toggleable updated graphics, as well as an option to speed up combat, as well as new English voice acting. The games will also be able to reach a wider audience than ever before with the addition of German and French language options.
A lack of modern ports can prevent many people from playing some incredible games, and the situation faced by the Lunar series is a perfect example of this. However, Lunar Remastered Collection also shows the value in reviving these old RPG franchises; although the games have been updated to bring them up to the standards of a modern audience, their core gameplay and stories remain the same. As such, while these games are becoming much more affordable for PlayStation players, people will still be able to have much the same experience with them as players in the ’90s did.
