Max’s The Big Bang Theory spinoff has added three cast members from the original series. The Big Bang Theory spinoff was previously announced in 2023, with co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre involved, but has received no further updates since. The franchise’s first spinoff, Young Sheldon, concluded earlier in 2024 after airing for seven seasons on CBS, the same network where The Big Bang Theory aired its 12 seasons. CBS is currently airing another franchise spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
As per Deadline, after signing their talent holding deals with Warner Bros. Television, Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus are attached to star in Max’s upcoming The Big Bang Theory spinoff series. They played the respective roles of Stuart Bloom, Bert Kibbler, and Denise in The Big Bang Theory. The highly anticipated spinoff is still in the early stages of development as it has not been officially greenlit yet and the script is still being written.

While Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage take place before The Big Bang Theory, the Max spinoff will be the first full-fledged story to take place after the events of the original show. Young Sheldon‘s ending did show some of Sheldon and Amy’s lives after The Big Bang Theory‘s conclusion, but this was only a small part of the prequel. The Max spinoff is poised to be a direct The Big Bang Theory sequel, even if it only primarily focuses on Stuart, Bert, and Denise.
Our Take On The Big Bang Theory Spinoff’s Casting News
The Franchise Continues To Expand, But Will This Latest Expansion Work?
With Max’s The Big Bang Theory spinoff taking place after the original series, and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage being a prequel, the franchise’s timelines are expanding in an exciting manner. Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, and other series regulars could have guest starring roles as they reunite with Stuart, Bert, and Denise. Despite the end of the original series and of Young Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory franchise is not slowing down and is only growing larger in terms of its timelines and the stories it will tell.
At the same time, this latest expansion does pose questions about whether it can be as compelling as the other spinoffs. Young Sheldon was a more natural extension of the franchise through its exploration of Sheldon Cooper’s childhood and much of the backstory that was only briefly referenced in The Big Bang Theory. As a main character and as the face of the original series, it was easy to be invested in learning more about Sheldon and his family, especially given the excellent performances from Iain Armitage and the rest of the Young Sheldon cast.

While all three of them had their fair share of comedic and memorable moments, they were never the strongest parts of The Big Bang Theory, and partly worked well because they were not in every episode.
