Until Dawn 2 Just Got A Whole Lot More Likely

This post contains spoilers for the
Until Dawn
remake.

Until Dawn fans may be enjoying the recently revamped version of the beloved horror game but it sounds like the cast is already thinking about the future. Supermassive’s excellent pastiche of slasher movies has become a cult classic and with the remake currently doing solid numbers on PC, it seems fair to say that interest in the franchise has never been higher. It’s been nearly a decade since the original game released on PlayStation 4 and while there hasn’t been word on a sequel in years, that’s quickly changing.

Posted to X (formerly Twitter) by user Okami13_, the Until Dawn fan points out that two of the game’s actors have subtlety dropped hints that a sequel is in development.

Speaking during a bonus interview included in the remake, Hayden Panettiere says, when speaking about fans’ passion for Until Dawn, that they, you know are going further with it,” which could be a hint of a follow-up project. This was followed by Peter Stormare, known for his excellent portrayal of Dr. Alan Hill, posting a faux newspaper headline relating to the remake “confirming” the existence of a sequel.

Is Until Dawn In Development?

It Certainly Seems Possible

Aside from Panettiere and Stormare’s comments on a potential sequel, the Until Dawn remake goes so far as to imply that the game’s story will continue. The revamped version of the game contains two additional endings that set the stage for another chapter. If players are careful with their decisions, the game can conclude with an implication that Josh, the person responsible for terrorizing his group of friends, survives his encounter with the Wendigo; Additionally, a post-credits scene depicts Panettiere’s character Samantha several years after the game’s story concludes, demonstrating her struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder.

If those nuggets of information weren’t enough to imply some kind of continuation then the various leaks regarding a possible sequel may sway naysayers. It’s been alleged for months now that Sony-owned developer Firesprite is working on a new entry in an “established” horror franchise with many assuming it to be Until Dawn. While nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing, taking these reports in tandem with the new ending certainly suggests that something is happening.

Screen Rant’s Take: Until Dawn 2 Would Be Great

Sam and Josh in the Until Dawn video game

As a massive fan of the original Until Dawn, I love the idea of returning for a sequel. The game’s cast of characters may have all served as the various tropes one might associate with a slasher movie, but returning to them years later and seeing how the incident on Blackwood Mountain altered their lives could make for a rewarding and deep story. There’s plenty of potential in Until Dawn‘s world so having another opportunity to dive back in and make some equally bad decisions sounds exciting.
