Warning: Contains SPOILERS for MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3!Superman could accurately be described as the most powerful superhero in any universe (his many Death Battle victories over DBZ’s Goku is proof enough of that), and Rick and Morty’s Rick Sanchez has more than proven himself to be the smartest man in the multiverse. And now, these beacons of unparalleled power and incomparable intelligence are about to go head-to-head with the perfect first move.
In a preview for MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 by Bryan Q. Miller and Jon Sommariva, DC’s greatest heroes are teaming up with some of Warner Bros.’s most iconic characters to battle villains from across the multiverse. This comic series has sent these characters on a multiversal collision course, with the likes of Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, and the Wicked Witch of the West finding themselves in the DC Universe. And now, another Warner Bros-owned character finds his way to the world of DC as well: Rick Sanchez.
Mayhem In The City Of Tomorrow! Metropolis’s newest city-wide battle has everything: Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, a child with a gem on his shiny round tum-tum, a sprite-sized Dark Knight, and…the Head. (It’s that thing where Brainiac’s code gets overwritten by an inebriated scientist who couldn’t be bothered to hang around for the entire issue!)
As described in this issue’s official summary, Rick managed to overwrite Brainiac’s code and take complete control over the alien/AI supervillain. In true ‘Rick fashion’, the alcoholic super-genius even morphed Brainiac’s ship into his own face, letting DC’s heroes know exactly who’s terrorizing them. Rick is using Brainiac’s tech to launch waves of deadly android drones at the heroes, a bold first move that will soon get the attention of the Man of Steel himself.
Rick and Morty’s Rick vs DC’s Superman: Who Will Win?
While Superman is unarguably stronger than Rick Sanchez in terms of inherent power, Rick’s inventive genius makes him a worthy challenger, even without Brainiac’s tech. Throughout the course of Rick and Morty, Rick has done things like battle elder gods – including a ‘Zeus’ named Reggie and Lovecraftian Old Ones like Cthulhu – and taking down galactic (and even multiversal) empires, like the Galactic Federation and the Citadel of Ricks. Not only that, but Rick also has the superhuman ability to invent any weapon he needs at any given time, even in the heat of battle.
Superman is certainly no slouch, either. Throughout his DC history, Superman has punched through dimensions, dragged a whole galaxy to a new location in space (when he was just a boy, no less), and obliterated an entire solar system with a mere sneeze. Even putting aside his more impossibly impressive feats, Superman is still nearly indestructible, which would render practically all of Rick’s gadgets useless – even those he acquired after hijacking Brainiac. However, when fighting an opponent like Rick, the trick would be for Superman to land a fight-ending blow before Sanchez invented a weapon that would work against him.
Rick’s Apathetic Indifference May Save the DC Universe
It’s Safe to Assume Rick Doesn’t Actually Care About This ‘VS Battle’ at All
While Rick presents himself as a deadly threat to the entire DC Universe in this preview, the summary makes it clear that Rick “couldn’t be bothered to hang around for the entire issue”. That means he probably just found himself in the DC Universe, took over Brainiac simply because he could, and then used his portal gun to go back home.
That would be the best case scenario, because if Rick really wanted to, it’s safe to assume that he’d create a kryptonite weapon to kill Superman, destroy the Earth from afar, and be back home in time for dinner. But, based on what fans know about Rick and what this summary offers, it isn’t likely that he’ll do any of that, as he’d simply have no interest in exerting himself that much for something so ‘pointless’.

Of course, there’s always the chance that Rick won’t stop this attack until he’s stopped, leading to a direct conflict with Superman that could go either way (indeed, super-geniuses have attacked Superman with kryptonite weapons before, to no avail). But, fans will just have to wait for the full issue to know for sure. Until then, they’re left with the perfect first move featured in this preview, one that could lead to DC’s Superman battling Rick and Morty’s Rick Sanchez.
MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 by DC is available October 16, 2024.
