Zootopia Sequel Series Gives Judy & Nick Their First Official Case

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Disney’s Zootopia #1! Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde earned their stripes as the two best police officers in Zootopia, and now, they’re about to solve their first official case as ZPD partners. In Disney’s 2016 animated film, Judy was a rookie cop and Nick was a conman. They were an unlikely duo, to be sure, but they ended up coming together to save Zootopia. After that, Nick became an officer and Judy’s official partner. And that’s exactly where their story begins in an all-new Zootopia sequel comic series.

Shared by AIPT Comics, Dynamite Entertainment released an unlettered preview and main/variant covers for Disney’s Zootopia #1 by Jeff Parker and Alessandro Ranaldi. The main cover art is done by artist Trish Forstner, with variant covers by Alessandro Ranaldi and Craig Rousseau (plus artwork from the 2016 film).

The preview opens with Judy and Nick at the police station, awaiting their assignment from Chief Bogo. The chief ends up putting them on crowd control duty at an event held by the PB&J cell phone company. Judy seemingly asks Bogo for a more challenging assignment (much to Nick’s annoyance), only for the chief to deny her request, which Judy does not seem very happy about. While the preview ends with the two officers working their ‘easy’ assignment, readers know from the summary Dynamite offered that things are about to get decidedly less boring.

What Mystery Judy Hopps & Nick Wilde Will Be Solving in Disney’s Zootopia

2016’s Zootopia was Just a Warm-Up

As Judy and Nick are working crowd control at a PB&J cell phone launch event, a mysterious criminal (or criminal organization) sabotages the event by “bringing the whole house down”. Chaos will assuredly ensue following the attack, and Judy and Nick will undoubtedly spring into action to ensure everyone gets out of the area safely. While that will be a dramatic chain of events to kick off this new comic, the attack on the PB&J event will just be the setup for the comic’s overarching mystery.

Who attacked PB&J, and why? That’s what Judy and Nick will be working to solve as the series moves forward, and given the level of damage and widespread terror spreading across Zootopia, the stakes have never been higher. Indeed, the events of the 2016 film were just a warm-up, as Judy and Nick aren’t working behind the scenes to expose a conspiracy, they’re very much in the public eye trying to catch violent criminals.

Disney’s Zootopia Will Be an Amazing Expansion of Zootopia Continuity
