Nightwing’s Final Issue Ends With 4 Perfect Words

WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for NIGHTWING #118After three incredible years, Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s Nightwing run reaches a bittersweet conclusion with four perfectly chosen words that capture both the emotional depth and the essence of this chapter in Dick Grayson’s history. Yet, this isn’t a true ending for the Boy Wonder. Instead, this closing marks the beginning of something new, setting the stage for what’s to come.

Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s entire Nightwing run has been defined by an emotional depth that has forced Dick to confront his past, present, and future. Nightwing #118 is no exception, delving deep into the original Boy Wonder’s emotional well. The first two pages set a tone of poignant introspection, as Dick opens the issue by reflecting on how “home is where the heart is” and how he lost that home when Tony Zucco killed his parents all those years ago.

He continues this reflection, noting how, when he moved to Blüdhaven, he believed he had found a new home. Though he didn’t like what he initially saw, he tried to change it—only for Heartless to tear down everything he had accomplished. By the end of this issue, however, Dick Grayson makes it clear he has found his true home with four perfect words: “My heart is here.”

Nightwing #118 final

Nightwing #118 delivers a powerful conclusion as Dick Grayson reclaims Blüdhaven, restoring his reputation and defeating Heartless. But the heart of this issue goes beyond Nightwing’s triumph—it lies in the emotional moment when Dick visits his parents’ graves. There, he shares his journey with them and reveals that he has “found a new home.” That home, as implied, includes the city, Barbara “Oracle” Gordon, Haley, and his newfound sister. It’s a beautifully poignant, even tear-jerking moment that will resonate with fans of this run for years to come.

The final panel depicts Nightwing, Batgirl, and Haley perched atop a crane, overlooking the city. This stunning visual is paired with Dick’s closing narration: “My heart is here.” These four words both confirm that Dick has found his true home and perfectly summarize the essence of the entire series. Taylor and Redondo’s run was filled with “heart” in every issue, whether it was Dick’s love for lost loved ones (Alfred Pennyworth, Mary and John Grayson), his family (Bruce, Damian, Barbara, and Haley), or his city. No words could have concluded this series more fittingly than these four.
