Inside Out Live-Action Concept Trailer Casts Sadie Sink & Jenna Ortega

Inside Out gets a new fan-made, live-action concept trailer, imagining Sadie Sink and Jenna Ortega in lead roles. Released in 2015, Inside Out hails from directors Pete Doctor and Ronnie Del Carmen, with a story that follows Riley and her various emotions – most notably Amy Poehler’s Joy – as she moves to a city and new school. After the first film was a major hit with audiences and critics alike, Riley’s story continued in Disney’s Inside Out 2, which hit theaters earlier this summer and introduced a handful of new animated characters.

Multiverse of Movies now imagines what Inside Out would look like if it made the jump to live-action with an AI-generated concept trailer. The trailer features a mix of new and familiar cast members, with some members of the franchise’s voice cast becoming live-action versions of their animated characters. Bill Hader, for example, who voices Fear, is imagined as a live-action Fear in the trailer, and it’s the same case for Maya Hawke’s Anxiety.

Sink, best known for her starring role in Stranger Things, is imagined taking on the role of Riley, while Wednesday‘s Ortega becomes Disgust. Other notable stars included in the AI trailer are Melissa McCarthy as Sadness, Jack Nicholson as Anger, Emma Stone as Envy, Kristen Stewart as Ennui, Rebel Wilson as Embarrassment, June Squibb as Nostalgia, and Jack Black as Bing Bong. What A Live-Action Adaptation Would Mean For The Inside Out Franchise

Why The Film Would Probably Be A Big Hit

Though an Inside Out spinoff called Dream Productions is on the way and Inside Out 3 is likely, there has thus far been no confirmation that the franchise will be making the jump to live-action. Over the last decade or so, Disney has been heavily focused on adapting its own animated classics into live-action, and hits have included The Lion King (2019), The Jungle Book (2016), and, more recently, The Little Mermaid (2023). Notably, however, the company’s live-action remakes have so far all been remakes of Disney’s own movies, and not Pixar’s.

Recently, Disney has cashed in on nostalgia and is making many live-action remakes of some of their animated classics. Letterboxd ranks the best here.

A live-action Inside Out, then, would break some new ground for both Disney and Pixar. There’s also reason to believe a live-action version of Riley’s story would be highly successful. Inside Out grossed $858.3 million worldwide back in 2015, and Inside Out 2‘s box office has been even more impressive, with the sequel grossing $1.696 billion. The upcoming Disney+ spinoff, Dream Productions, is sure to be a viewership hit when it releases in December, further cementing just how much audience interest there is in the franchise.

Does The Film Need A Live-Action Adaptation?

Riley's parents comfort her in Inside Out 2

Though a live-action version of the hit Pixar film would probably be wildly successful, it’s also arguably not needed. The same criticism can actually be levied at all of Disney’s recent live-action remakes, as the original versions of these stories remain compelling. That being said, adapting popular stories from animation into live-action can introduce them to entirely new audiences and give existing fans a new way of interacting with these beloved stories. While no live-action Inside Out is confirmed just yet, it wouldn’t be surprising if a remake happens eventually.
