Severance Season 2 Confirms The Return Of Milchick’s Greatest Running Gag

A teaser for Severance season 2 was recently released, and along with showing the return of several key characters and plotlines, the trailer also hints at the reprisal of Milchick’s running gag from season 1. First released in 2022, Severance is a sci-fi series centering on a world where individuals can sever their minds so that they have a working self and a home self. Season 1 followed Severance’s cast of characters as they unravel what is really going on at their company, Lumon. Now, season 2 will seemingly show the consequences of their actions.

In just over a minute, the Severance season 2 trailer showcases a lot about where the newest installment is headed. Audiences see the return of Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan, who are coming to terms with their home selves after the Severance season 1 finale. In particular, Mark is shocked by the revelation that his wife may be alive, yet enters his office to find that he has completely new co-workers. Viewers can assume that Mark and his colleagues are going to be punished for escaping Lumon, putting them in an even more precarious situation than they were in before.

Milchick’s Unsettling Parties Are Returning In Severance Season 2

Why Milchick’s Parties Are So Great

One exciting detail included in the Severance season 2 trailer is the return of Milchick and his strange parties. In Severance, Milchick is characterized as being an enforcer. Throughout season 1, he arrives at the office on behalf of Lumon to keep an eye on Mark and his co-workers. What is really special about Milchick is that he is joyfully sinister. Although he constantly has a smile on his face, his actions are often threatening. This will seemingly happen once again in Severance season 2, as Milchick arrives with a bunch of balloons with Mark’s face on them.

Milchick is definitely an intimidating character for Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan, but he makes for an amazing source of entertainment for Severance’s viewers. For example, in season 1, Milchick awards Helly and her co-workers with a Music Dance Experience in order to smooth over the changing dynamics of their office. Helly picks a maraca and the genre “Defiant Jazz,” and the cast are forced to dance as a strangely disturbing reward. The scene is uncomfortable, and because of that, absolutely awesome to watch. Hopefully, season 2 can match that energy.

The Real Meaning Of Mr. Milchick’s Strange Parties In Severance Explained

Milchick Satirizes Real Office Culture

Milchick’s strange parties and prizes in Severance serve two purposes. The first is to intimidate Mark and his colleagues in a way that is not explicitly threatening but has undertones that let the workers know they are being watched. This encapsulates the overarching ambiance of Lumon. This is a company that doesn’t let its workers in on anything, and uses corporate politeness to hide their dangerous demeanor. Milchick symbolizes this idea.

The new trailer for Severance season 2 shows Mark’s coworkers at Lumon have been replaced, raising questions over what happened to them.

However, Milchick’s parties are also a perfect satire of real office culture. Oftentimes, offices provide amenities for their workers, such as pool tables and catering, to boost morale. Yet, these rewards can sometimes have a sour taste to them, as they can distract workers from the fact that their company is overworking them. In this way, Milchick in Severance is an exaggerated example of how corporate culture and capitalism use good things to hide their wrongdoings.
