A dial in Connections Categories November 7

One of the things that is hard to anticipate and one that will hurt your brain the most is the category names and what tactics they will use to keep you from solving them. While I found one of the harder categories easier, that is solely due to my experience and background and if it was something else, I would have been very confused. I was able to leverage that experience today, and I am now passing it on for you to leverage it as well.

  • One category is about intentionally prepared mixed-up items
  • One category is about what others might think about a person
  • One category is about the information that you might find if you enter a specific institution
  • One category is about words that have also been mixed in a very specific way

FOOD-RELATED JUMBLES

HASH

SALAD

SCRAMBLE

STEW

This was not the first one I got, but I did not feel as frustrated about this category as I have recently. I saw HASH and SCRAMBLE, and at first, I thought it was about different ways to prepare eggs. However, that got me most of the way there, as I then came across SALAD and STEW. Being the only food-related words I had left at that point, and possibly the only ones in the puzzle, I was able to put them together and finish this one off.

NAME

REPUTATION

This is where I could see a lot of mistakes being made, as between this category and the next one, there is a lot of potential crossover. NAME and TITLE can mean very close to the same thing. REPUTATION can be added to various placards as well, especially if it’s someone quite famous. Even with my museum experience, I switched a couple of these words the first time before I realized what was going on and why I had gotten it wrong. That experience really saved me here, and I am glad it was worth it at least once.

This is where my experience had it’s time to shine, and I had a lot of emotions while figuring this one out. Mostly I remembered all the time I spent learning what makes a good museum label and never being able to put it to the test. However, there are four words that you will find on nearly any art museum piece that will help you solve the mysteries. I once had to solve a similar mystery, but unfortunately, that artwork did not have the information I needed to make it easier.

EGADS

MONTE

YOGA

This is a category of random words, particularly MONTE and EGADS, as well as a couple that just do not seem to go with anything else. I am glad I came to this one last and did not have as much trouble with the others, as these four words would have made guessing that much harder. I can definitely see where this puzzle would be more difficult for those who do not have a museum background, and I hope that these hints helped!
