Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video boasts a large selection of movies and TV shows in its library available to subscribers, but much of that content is temporary, with a number of titles leaving each month. With the large backing from Amazon, Prime Video has emerged as one of the biggest streaming services around, offering a giant catalog of previously released movies and shows while also developing acclaimed original content. However, Prime Video’s offerings disappear on a monthly basis on purpose, planned through contracts with film and television distributors.

July 2024 removed several notable titles from Prime Video from hit movies to beloved shows. The documentary Life Itself, about film critic Roger Ebert, was removed from the platform on July 2, along with horror films like Halloween 5 and 2006’s Black Christmas. August 2024 also features a small number of titles being removed, but there are some very notable titles including a Jason Statham action movie, a vampire horror-comedy, and a rare villainous turn from Johnny Depp. Users can check out every departing title and how long they have to catch them before they are gone.

However, when Luke crosses paths with a young girl who has something those same gangsters want, Luke sees an opportunity for revenge as well as redemption by helping the child.

Safe is light on story and heavy on action, with Statham always looking like he is having a lot of fun beating up endless droves of bad guys. It is a hard-R action movie with some brutal fight sequences. While Safe is no longer available for Prime Video users, the platform does have other fun Statham films, like the aforementioned The Beekeeper, The Bank Job, and Fast X.

One of Daniel Radcliffe’s best post-Harry Potter movies is leaving Prime Video on August 4. The Woman in Black is a gripping and highly effective supernatural horror story set in early 20th-century England. Radcliffe stars as a young solicitor who travels to a small town where he discovers the townspeople are terrorized by a local ghost story. Exploring the matter further, he discovers the truth behind the tales of the vengeful spirit of a deceased woman.

In the modern age of horror movies, The Woman in Black feels like a throwback ghost story that is refreshing. However, its lack of gory kills and vicious killers doesn’t mean that it does not deliver in terms of the scares. There is a foreboding tone throughout the film, with Radcliffe’s grounded performance also selling the subtle approach. It makes for a solid horror offering Prime Video users have to act quickly to catch.

Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)

A look at the younger years of one of literature’s greatest heroes leaves Prime Video on August 4. Young Sherlock Holmes is a mystery adventure movie directed by Barry Levinson (Diner, Wag the Dog) and written by Chris Columbus (Gremlins, The Goonies). The project retcons much of what is established in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s books by taking a look at the original of Sherlock Holmes meeting John Watson in boarding school and embarking on an adventure to solve their first case together.

The movie is an underrated Amblin production that infuses that Steven Spielberg’s charm into this young teen adventure featuring these classic characters. With Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock series going forward, fans might be interested in checking out this previous origin story of the iconic sleuth while they still can on Prime Video.

More than three decades after Vampire’s Kiss, Nicolas Cage’s return to the vampire genre will be leaving Prime Video on August 8. Renfield is another unique twist to a literary character, as Renfield was the gruesome human accomplice, or “familiar” to Count Dracula in Bram Stoker’s novel. In this version, Nicholas Hoult plays Renfield, the timid and submissive servant to Cage’s eccentric and vicious take on Dracula.

The movie explores the relationship between these two which has grown more and more toxic over the years, causing Renfield to seek opportunities to break away from his overbearing master and forge his own path. Hoult makes for a likable lead, but the movie truly comes alive anytime Cage is on screen. He is hilarious and fun as Dracula, but also never loses the character’s horror elements, turning the film into a bloody mess at times.

Actor Johnny Depp steps into the role of a notorious gangster in a mob movie leaving Prime Video on August 11. Black Mass is the incredible true story of Boston crime boss Whitey Bulger, a high-ranking member of the Irish Mob in America who was thought to have been responsible for countless murderers and other crimes. As Bulger was operating as a criminal, he was also working alongside the FBI in an effort to take down his competitors and be fed information about the authorities investigating him.

The movie is an intense and violent crime story with Depp commanding the screen as this vicious and brutal mob figure. He is joined by a strong supporting cast that includes Dakota Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Joel Edgerton, and David Harbour. Bulger is a fascinating character to explore and Black Mass makes for an excellent movie for fans of the mob genre to check out.
