After arriving at the Siofra River Bank Site of Grace in Elden Ring‘s subterranean region of Siofra River, you’ll notice a central stairwell lined by flame torches upon pillars nearby. The stairs lead to a path with a beastly carcass lying at the end that serves as an entrance toward an optional boss. However, you can only reach this enemy when you alight each pillar by exploring the area.
You should try to get the Map Fragment for Siofra River to make exploration easier as you try to find ways to light each torch pillar on the stairway. This area is occupied by many spectral enemies, so you need to be careful as you ride Torrent around the River. Have a steady torch at hand to help illuminate certain places and find the Fragment as soon as possible.

Elden Ring features several bosses, locations, items, and questlines that players can easily miss on their first playthrough of the game.
Every Siofra River Flame Torch Location
Make Sure To Look Off The Beaten Path
Every Siofra River flame torch can be ignited by finding braziers at stone obelisks scattered around the area. Interacting with a brazier will indicate that the torches near the Site of Grace are starting to activate, though the order in which you light them doesn’t matter. Braziers are usually guarded by enemies, making them difficult to approach at times until you clear areas of any hostile opponents.
Flame Brazier |
Where To Find |
---|---|
Flame Brazier #1 |
Directly between the Site of Grace at the Siofra River Bank and the place with all the flame pillars, under an obelisk closest to the staircase. |
Flame Brazier #2 |
Turn left from Flame Brazier #1 and run past the hostile crab. Go past the creature to find this brazier at the top of a hill guarded by angry Minotaur spirits. |
Flame Brazier #3 |
Within Siofra River Well , a smaller area northeast of Flame Brazier #1. |
Flame Brazier #4 |
Go northwest from Flame Brazier #3 until you reach the region’s border. The obelisk with the brazier will be sitting out on a nearby ledge, guarded by two ghostly apparitions. |
One of the best ways to explore Siofra River is to ride on the
spectral steed Torrent in
Elden Ring
, which can be unlocked by accepting Melina’s offer at one of the starting Site of Graces in Limgrave.
Flame Brazier |
Where To Find |
---|---|
Flame Brazier #5 |
West from Flame Brazier #4, easily spotted in the open area of the River’s shallow waters. |
Flame Brazier #6 |
Just across the water from Flame Brazier #6. Moving from one to the other will cause enemies to spawn along the way. |
Flame Brazier #7 |
Toward the northeastern section of Siofra River, a place you can reach by taking the eastern road. The obelisk with this brazier is located along this path. |
Flame Brazier #8 |
West from Flame Brazier #7, after you go north and make a U-turn. Travel south from the left side of the map until you reach a forested area with the obelisk containing this brazier. |
Once every pillar has been lit, you can return to the Site of Grace and rest up for the boss fight. Use this opportunity to level up using the Runes you’ve collected from defeated enemies you fell along the path to each Brazier. Alternatively, you can return to any NPC merchants you’ve found to buy important consumables for the fight or upgrade your weapons in preparation for the battle to come.
Which Secret Boss Unlocks After Lighting All Siofra River Flame Torches?
Be Ready To Fight A Spiritual Force Of Nature
The remains at the top of the flame pillar staircase can be interacted with to teleport you into an arena against the Ancestor Spirit in Elden Ring. The Ancestor Spirit is a huge skeletal moose that uses large physical attacks and spiritual magic to attack your Tarnished character. This beast also gallops into the air to fly around as it uses a variety of moves to try and send you back to Siofra River in pieces.
Since this boss is optional, you can take time to return to The Lands Between and farm some levels before engaging the undead creature in battle. If you aren’t confident that levels will be the deciding factor to victory, you can use Spirit Ashes during this fight to give yourself some allies to help take on this foe together. While there are no NPC summons for the Ancestor Spirit, there are still plenty of tools to make this fight easier.
How To Defeat The Siofra River Secret Boss
Study Attack Patterns And Bring The Right Gear
As you can see in the above video by YouTube creator Shark R, the Ancestor Spirit uses Physical and Magic damage to injure your character throughout this fight. Try to wear Talismans that resist Magic, such as the Spelldrake Talisman , to reduce the damage from some of the Spirit’s stronger attacks. As you may expect, the Ancestor Spirit resists Magic damage, so don’t expect many Sorceries to deal much damage to the boss.
Most of the time, the Ancestor Spirit will use its antlers and hooves to strike at your Tarnished, but now and then it will unleash a magical blue breath in a large AoE. This can be done from the ground or when the Spirit is flying through the air, so be prepared to sprint out of the way or keep your distance when this happens. Rolling and dodging at the right time will save your life against the beast’s direct physical attacks.

12 Best Spells For Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree
Many new Sorcery and Incantation spells have been added to Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but only some stand out as the best for your build.
The Ancestor Spirit is weak to Fire and Holy damage, making some weapons more viable than others throughout this fight. Although you can imbue normal weapons with these elemental types, it may be better to use certain Incantations in Elden Ring that inflict Fire or Holy if your build supports them too. Whether you are a spell caster or a melee-focused warrior, there are many ways to exploit the Spirit’s weaknesses.
Your rewards from defeating the Ancestor Spirit are 12,000 Runes and the Ancestral Follower Ashes , a powerful summon spell that conjures the spirit of an Ancestral Follower. This NPC wields a heavy bow to take down enemies from afar, making them great for a variety of builds that benefit from cover fire. Finding all the flame pillar locations at Siofra River in Elden Ring to face the Ancestor Spirit is worth the effort for such a strong support tool.
