The Mother of Magic is a prominent figure in Baldur’s Gate 3, despite never appearing in some players’ playthroughs. As the goddess of magic, Mystra is a powerful deity who controls the Weave, the raw material for all magic. Gale was once a lover and chosen of Mystra, who taught Gale how to further manipulate the Weave before he sought to claim a piece of it for himself to hold the goddess’s affections.
Reddit user lizhen_oz shared their Mystra cosplay online, showcasing a rare look at the Lady of Mysteries come to life. The cosplay beautifully details the intricate dress, fully made by OP, featuring a transparent cutout in the front and symmetrical patterns throughout the body of the dress. Even the earrings, which mirror the one Gale wears throughout Faerun, match those of the actual in-game goddess.
OP’s attention to detail for the high-slit dress is impressive, but what’s arguably even more so is their ability to recreate the twisting violet light of the Weave. As noted in the post, the background was made using “[three] different light sources, mirrors, and reflecting films to get the *Northern Lights( effect in [the] photostudio.” Though plenty of cosplays, especially for Baldur’s Gate 3, will utilize photo editing to achieve the right look, the OP notes that there were “no AI or face alterations.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Can Only See Mystra In Act 3
Choosing Gale As The Origin Character Will Offer The Most Control In Their Encounter
Though Mystra’s role throughout the game is pretty prominent, particularly for those who have Gale in their party, most players won’t get to meet the goddess during their playthrough. Those who choose to help Gale through his personal quest may be able to gain an audience with the goddess in Act 3, though only those who chose Gale as their player character at the beginning of the game will actually get to control how the conversation unfolds.
Mystra originally encourages Gale to use the piece of the Weave he’s consumed to blow himself up and destroy the Elder Brain, which he has more than one opportunity to do, though this is not the only avenue for the Wizard to take. If the players encourage him not to let the netherese orb self-destruct, he can use the Crown of Karsus to either ascend to godhood himself or give it to Mystra in exchange for being cured of the orb. Both of these avenues lead to different endings for the wizard.
Though Mystra may not be one of the more visible gods in Baldur’s Gate 3, her role and cutscenes are a vital part of the weaving story that unfolds in the popular title. Reddit user lizhen_oz’s cosplay is a beautiful recreation of the goddess and one that would likely earn some words of praise from Gale (who would know best, since he’s seen the real thing).
