Batgirl Actor Joins Emma Stone’s Alien Conspiracy Movie, Reuniting With Director 7 Years Later

A Batgirl actress joins the cast of Bugonia, Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos’ next movie, reuniting with the director seven years after their first film. The two-time Oscar-winning actress, Stone, and five-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker, Lanthimos, have collaborated four times on The Favourite, the short film Bleat, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness. Their next project, based on the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet!, also stars Jesse Plemons, reuniting with Stone and Lanthimos after Kinds of Kindness.

Now, another actor has joined Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos’ next movie. Alicia Silverstone, who played Batgirl in 1997’s Batman & Robin, has joined the cast of Bugonia, according to Variety, marking a reunion with Lanthimos after starring in his 2017 film, The Killing of a Sacred Deer. However, details about Silverstone’s role in Bugonia are being kept under wraps.

What Alicia Silverstone’s Casting Means For Bugonia

Yorgos Lanthimos Is Continuing To Collaborate With The Same Actors

Over his career, Yorgos Lanthimos has continuously collaborated with the same actors, some of whom include Colin Farrell, Olivia Colman, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley. This trend is set to continue with his next film Bugonia, which will be the director’s fourth feature film collaboration with Emma Stone, and fifth overall including their 2022 short film Bleat. Jesse Plemons starred in Kinds of Kindness, winning the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival, and is also reuniting with Lanthimos for Bugonia.

Yorgos Lanthimos & Emma Stone’s Next Movies Is Nothing Like Their Previous Collaborations (& That’s Great)

After the critically acclaimed Poor Things, Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos are already reuniting in what looks like their most distinct movie yet.

After Stone and Plemons, Alicia Silverstone is the third actor cast in Bugonia who has already worked with Lanthimos before. She starred in The Killing of a Sacred Deer as the mother of Barry Keoghan’s character, Martin, and appears in a key scene where she interacts with Colin Farrell’s character, Steven. Though her screen time is limited, her appearance is quite memorable, and left enough of a lasting impression for Lanthimos to cast her again seven years later in Bugonia.

Our Take On Alicia Silverstone’s Casting In Bugonia

Who Might She Be Playing?

Cher (Alicia Silverstone) confused in Clueless

With a script written by Emmy winner Will Tracy (Succession, The Menu), Bugonia follows two conspiracy-minded young men who kidnap the powerful CEO of a major corporation, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying Earth. It’s unclear who will play the female CEO, though Emma Stone will likely take the lead role, and Alicia Silverstone should take on a smaller supporting role, as she did in The Killing of a Sacred Deer. However, if their previous collaboration is any indication, Silverstone should make a memorable impression on Lanthimos’ next film, Bugonia.

Bugonia
is set for release in theaters on November 7, 2025.
