With November 7, or N7, fast approaching, fans might not want to get their hopes up for any big news regarding the Mass Effect series, which currently has a long-awaited sequel, the prospective Mass Effect 5, in development. November 7, a yearly celebration of the Mass Effect series, chosen as a reference to Shepherd’s in-game rank, is typically a time when fans can expect some sort of Mass Effect news, with previous years having included teasers for upcoming games.
Unfortunately, as per a post from @bioware on X, fans may want to temper their expectations for 2024’s N7, as the developer says that “this year will be quieter“ due to the recent launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard on October 31. Notably, however, BioWare is still promising something for N7, telling fans to “check back then for a little fun,” but it’s currently unknown what this will entail, or even if it will relate to Mass Effect 5 in any way.
N7 Day May Be A Bit Quieter This Year Than Fans Are Used To
BioWare Tempers Expectations Ahead Of N7 2024
As BioWare tried to temper expectations for N7, fan response has been mixed, trending towards negative, with many wondering how 2024’s N7 could be any “quieter” than those of previous years, which have only seen short cinematic teasers for the next Mass Effect. Additionally, though some fans remain positive, others, expressing dislike towards Veilguard, have concerns about the quality of the next Mass Effect, showing a lack of trust towards BioWare’s development team to create a game as compelling as the original trilogy.

N7 Day is a yearly celebration of the Mass Effect universe held in November, so what could be revealed about the next game by BioWare this year?
For reference, the first announcement of the next Mass Effect came in 2020, with an initial announcement in November quickly followed by a short, cryptic teaser shown at the 2020 Game Awards. Unfortunately, updates on the next Mass Effect have been few and far between in the four years following the game’s announcement, as BioWare’s development efforts seem to have been mostly focused on Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Our Take: Sometimes, Bigger Isn’t Always Better
The Next Mass Effect Might Not Have Much To Show Yet
Of course, with BioWare reportedly having shifted focus to Mass Effect only recently, after the release of Veilguard, it’s likely that the studio simply doesn’t have much to show, and that the next Mass Effect game is still years away from release. In that context, it makes more sense to keep N7 relatively light until there’s more to show, rather than overpromise things that might not pan out once the game is further into development – especially since, in the worst case, the game might not be released until as late as 2029.
In the lead-up to N7 2024, it’s becoming unclear if BioWare will even release a short cinematic teaser like in previous years – given that the next Mass Effect is seemingly still in the very early stages of development, it could still be a while before there are any substantial updates. In light of the long wait since the game’s initial 2020 announcement, many fans are getting restless, but hopefully, whatever BioWare does have in store for Mass Effect‘s N7 2024 can assuage some doubts.
