Bonchon, a Korean fried chicken concept, signed four multi-unit agreements to expand in Texas, Georgia and New York. One agreement is with franchisee Bobby Booker for Dallas and another is with Wenhuang Liu for Georgia.
In New York, meanwhile, existing franchisees Kelly Moughal and Muhammad Saleem signed on for three more units, while Sung Ho and Eunmi Shin inked a deal for three locations in Long Island and Queens. Established in 2006, Bonchon now has 400 restaurants across nine countries.
Perspire Sauna Studio signed a pair of multi-unit agreements for the Tampa area. One of the deals is with experienced entrepreneurs Jason Sluka and Pete Kapinos for 10 locations. The other agreement is for three studios with Mike Polikretis, who brings 14 years of residential mortgage field experience. Established in 2010, Perspire Sauna Studio is a brand with 40 studios open.
Krystal, a southern QSR brand, signed a 10-unit deal with WAC Enterprises, helmed by Wayne and Carole Hale, as well as John Jones. WAC Enterprises is an existing franchisee, already operating 69 locations. Based in Atlanta, Krystal was founded in 1932 and today has nearly 300 restaurants across 10 states.
Fast casual brand Newk’s Eatery signed a three-unit deal with Mooney Restaurant Ventures for the Memphis area. The franchisee company is helmed by Spencer Mooney, an existing Newk’s Eatery owner since 2007. As part of the deal, he also purchased three other existing Newk’s Eatery locations in Memphis. Founded in 2004, Newk’s Eatery has just under 100 locations in 15 states.
Sandwich brand Goodcents inked a deal for 10 locations in the Omaha, Nebraska, market. The agreement is with Will and Gina Gregalunas, existing franchisees who own a location in Omaha already. In business for more than 34 years, Goodcents has over 60 locations.
Music school concept Bach to Rock signed a three-unit deal with existing franchisees Judy Shoulak and her son Jake to expand the brand’s presence in the Twin Cities. Launched in 2007, Bach to Rock has 56 music schools, 44 of them are franchised.
Pet care brand Dogtopia inked an agreement for four locations in New York and New Jersey. The deal is with Eric and Tara Hudson, who bring franchisee experience through their ownership of three Orangetheory Fitness units. Founded in 2002, Dogtopia has 250 locations open.
Pet Evolution, a pet supply brand, signed a regional development deal to open up to 18 units in the greater Orlando area. The agreement is with Dan Morris and Jeff Zerbe, who have franchise experience with Pizza Hut and Honest-1 Auto Care. Established in 2012 and franchising since 2021, Pet Evolution has seven locations.
Blo Blow Dry Bar signed a two-unit agreement for the Boston area with Molly O’Connor. An entrepreneur, O’Connor has owned a mobile locker truck business since 2014. She intends to open the first location in late 2023 and the second in the second quarter of 2024. Founded in Canada in 2007, Blo Blow Dry Bar today has more than 140 locations in North America.
Sylvan Learning, an enrichment education concept, signed a two-territory agreement with Nancy and Joe Shrewsbury. Nancy Shrewsbury brings 20 years of experience as an educator while her husband has a background in data and business analytics. The married couple plan to open locations in Lake Wylie and Rock Hill, South Carolina. Worldwide, Sylvan Learning has more than 710 locations.
Tex-Mex brand Fajita Pete’s signed an exclusive agreement with Puerto Madero Group to open five locations in Puerto Rico over the next five years. The first unit in the agreement is expected to open in San Juan in late 2023. Launched in 2008, Fajita Pete’s currently has 30 locations open.
Subway inked a master franchise agreement with Shanghai Fu-Rui-Shi Corporate Development Co. to expand its presence in China. The agreement is the largest master franchise deal in Subway’s history. Through the deal, the franchisee group will open nearly 4,000 locations in China over the next 20 years. In the Asia Pacific region, Subway has 3,500 restaurants.
Dae Gee Korean BBQ signed a master franchise agreement with Restaurant Management Group to open up to 20 restaurants in Mexico. Restaurant Management Group includes partners with more than 100 years of combined restaurant and franchise experience. The group plans to open locations in Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey and Puerto Vallarta. Dae Gee Korean BBQ was founded in 2012 and has been franchising since 2021.
Curry Up Now, a casual Indian food brand, signed a six-unit deal for the Seattle market. The agreement is with Quick Elephant LLC, which is helmed by cousins Siddharth and Gaurav Bhindi. Established in 2009, Curry Up Now has 20 units open as well as three food trucks in operation.
