Castlevania’s Best Season Makes Me Even More Excited About Castlevania: Nocturne’s Netflix Future

Netflix’s original Castlevania series doesn’t start out with its best season, and this fact makes me even more excited about the potential future of Castlevania: Nocturne. Netflix’s Castlevania series is the adaptation of the beloved video game series, with it chronicling the story of Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard as they attempt to thwart Dracula Vlad Tepes’ plans to overthrow the world with his vampire army. After four seasons of Castlevania, Netflix followed it up with a sequel series titled Castlevania: Nocturne, a series that could turn into a massive multi-season saga of its own.


Castlevania: Nocturne is the newest Castlevania series from Netflix, with Castlevania: Nocturne taking place 300 years after the original series. The sequel show follows a descendant of Trevor named Richter Belmont, another monster hunter who attempts to stop a vampire uprising during the days of the French Revolution. The sequel series heavily pulls from the video games Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, with the potential to adapt these games being one of the most exciting parts of Castlevania: Nocturne for me in the time leading up to the show’s release.


Castlevania: Nocture Season 2 Should Be Incredible Based On Castlevania


I really enjoyed season 1 of Castlevania: Nocturne, and while there were a lot of great things in the first eight episodes, I didn’t think it was as good as Netflix’s original Castlevania series. However, I still think that Castlevania: Nocturne has the potential to get better, as season 2 should be incredible based on the story of the original Castlevania series. The four-episode first season of the original Castlevania show was a promising start to the series, with it acting as a proof of concept for a massive Castlevania saga. However, this wasn’t the show’s best season.

Despite having beautiful animation, among many other aspects that became key reasons why I loved the original Castlevania in later seasons, Castlevania season 1 just wasn’t as good as its predecessors. Season 1 is mostly setup for the later seasons, introducing the world and the story without fully delving into the characters and broader story. While Castlevania: Nocturne doesn’t follow this exact structure, it had to do many of the things that season 1 did, meaning that Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 could improve on its preceding season in the same way.

Why Castlevania Season 2 Was The Show’s Best

Castlevania season 2 was easily my favorite season of the show, with it improving on season 1 and not being topped by the subsequent two seasons. Castlevania season 2 is much bigger and bolder than its predecessor, with it finally focusing on the trio of Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard as they attempt to take on the looming threat of a vampire uprising. Season 2 had double the amount of episodes as the first one, and since it didn’t have to focus on worldbuilding as much, it was able to focus on crafting its incredible characters and story.


I’m still a huge fan of Castlevania seasons 3 and 4, but they are a lot less focused than season 2. The characters are all split up, the pace is slower, and the plans that each character is trying to carry out are a lot more complex. The scale of the later seasons is a big too grand when compared to season 2 of Castlevania, with it losing its laser focus that made me fall in love with season 2.

I’m excited for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2, but I am even more excited about Castlevania‘s future on Netflix. Castlevania: Nocturne proved that Netflix was willing and able to expand on the Castlevania universe, telling new stories with new characters in new time periods rather than relying on the surefire greatness of the original series. The sequel series sets up another grand saga that could be just as good as the original series by the time that it is done, with Castlevania: Nocturne‘s story having the potential to carry on for several more seasons.

Castlevania: Nocturne is just another one of many stories from the Castlevania universe, meaning that the show could set up even more sequels and spinoffs. Castlevania‘s Belmont family tree is absolutely massive, meaning that future Castlevania shows could focus on some of my other favorite Belmonts from the various video games.
