Coverys, a leading provider of medical professional liability (MPL) insurance and healthcare risk mitigation services, has appointed Michael Apkon, MD, PhD, to its Medical Professional Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors.
Dr. Apkon is an industry veteran with more than 30 years of clinical experience as a pediatrician and C-suite executive at health systems including Tufts Medical Center, Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Yale-New Haven Health System. He is currently an independent director at Refactor Health, a seed-stage health information technology company, while also serving as an advisor for several medical technology and investment organizations such as Brainspace, First Ascent Bio, Integrated Investment Partners, and Continuum Healthcare.
Dr. Apkon is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Society for Pediatric Research and volunteers as director of 4-CT, which tackles the health and economic disparities in Connecticut. He has published more than 30 pieces of pediatrics-focused journal articles, including research on improving clinical handoff quality. He earned his Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University as well as MD and PhD degrees from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

Additionally, there are two other notable changes to the Coverys Board of Directors. First, Dr. Erwin Stuebner has retired from the Board after 28 years. We would like to thank Dr. Stuebner for his dedication and years of service to the Board. Lastly, Mr. Michael W. Louge will assume the role of Board Vice-Chair.
