District Taco signed a 10-unit deal, expanding the fast-casual brand in New York and New Jersey with franchisee group D3 Tacos. The group plans to open in Hudson County, New Jersey, and Richmond and Kings counties in New York. Founded in 2009, District Taco today has 14 locations.
Jars, a quick-service dessert concept, signed a seven-unit deal for Kansas City with entrepreneur Troy Lovins. In addition to a background in engineering and consulting, Lovins is also a franchisee of Sport Clips and Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, owning multiple locations. Chef Fabio Viviani founded Jars in 2021 and in 2022, the brand partnered with Fransmart for further expansion.
Batteries Plus inked a six-unit agreement with Chris and Nicole Fasulka. The married business partners, who are also Urban Air Adventure Park franchisees, will open the Batteries Plus locations in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded in 1988, Batteries Plus is a retail brand with more than 700 units.
Eggs Up Grill signed an agreement for five locations with father-and-son duo Chris and Kyle White. Chris White is a real estate broker and entrepreneur while Kyle White is an attorney. The duo plan to open five units in the Houston market, with the first expected to open in mid-2024. In operation for 25 years, Eggs up Grill is a breakfast franchise with 68 locations.
Electronics resale concept PayMore inked a five-unit agreement with Chris Enright for the Dallas market. Enright is a former executive and multi-unit owner of Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and is now a franchisee with Fajita Pete’s. Founded in 2011 and franchising since 2020, PayMore has 16 locations open in the U.S.
Cookie concept Schmackary’s signed a five-unit deal with entrepreneur Alex Laracy to expand the brand’s presence in New York City. Laracy previously owned a food packaging company, Green Box, and a marketing agency, both of which he sold. Launched in 2011, Schmackary’s has been franchising since May in partnership with Fransmart.
Smalls Sliders, a burger QSR brand, signed a four-unit agreement with existing franchisee Matt Gallagher for the Pensacola, Florida, market. Gallagher has already signed on to develop the concept’s first four locations in Mississippi and is bringing 40 years of experience in the restaurant industry to the brand. Launched in 2019, Smalls Sliders has eight locations throughout Louisiana.
Pretzelmaker signed a 25-unit agreement to expand the snack concept in Canada. The deal is with Canadian Cookie Enterprises, which agreed to build out the units throughout the country over the next 10 years. Pretzelmaker is one of several concepts in the FAT Brands portfolio, which operates more than 2,300 units worldwide. In the U.S., Pretzelmaker has more than 280 locations.
Curry Up Now, a casual Indian concept, signed a master franchise deal with Harjinder Atwal to open 60 locations in the United Kingdom. Atwal brings multi-unit franchisee experience in the QSR space. Established in 2009, Curry Up Now has 16 brick-and-mortar units, three food trucks and several digital kitchen outposts.
Hair care brand Drybar signed an agreement with Makan Al Adhafer Trading Co., a subsidiary of Al Hokhair, to open 20 locations in Saudi Arabia. Construction of the first Drybar is slated for late 2023. Drybar is one of the concepts in the WellBiz Brands portfolio, which has nearly 1,000 franchised locations globally, including 150 Drybar units.
