This December you have a choice. You can choose to change your life and make 2023 the year you start the life of your dreams, or you can have another 2022. It’s been a financially crippling year for many people in our country and across the world. Some have not yet been able to recover from the financial onslaught that the pandemic inflicted upon the world.
The following five books are life-changing reads. Each book has a core message that will help you build on your own dreams of a happy life. We believe money to be the problem, but in actuality it is our perception towards it and towards life that needs a little tweaking. When we use our time to strengthen our mind, our circumstances will change for the better because we are making better decisions.
Enjoy the books, and please leave comments on books that have brought you closer to a financially happier, mentally stronger, and more satisfying life. We would love to read them too.
Epic Book #1 – Stop Acting Rich and Start Living Like a Real Millionaire by Thomas J. Stanley PhD.

Our favourite quote from the book:
“You can act rich or become rich. Few of us will ever be able to do both, and we certainly won’t get rich by acting the part before we have the financial resources to pay for la dolce vita.”
Why you should read it:
Stop acting rich targets the mindset of consumerism and what we believe to be necessary, head on. The book meanders through the difference between the ‘glitter rich’ and the truly rich. How they act and how we follow what we perceive to be rich. This book is a undeniable eye-opener into the habits that we have cultivated in forming our identity in society and what we can do to better it and become truly wealthy.
Epic Book #2 – Atomic Habits by James Clear

Our favourite quote from the book:
“Whether we are approaching behaviour change as an individual, a parent, a coach, or a leader, we should ask ourselves the same question: “How can we design a world where it’s easy to do what’s right?” Redesign your life so the actions that matter the most are also the actions that are easiest to do.”
Why you should read it:
Atomic Habits covers the psychology of behaviour, in particular habits – how they are formed, why we keep them and practical examples on how to change them into positive growing habits. The goldilocks method explains why we quit early in projects and what we can do to the action that could keep us motivated and persevering for longer. Though there are still many questions within behavioural psychology as to what makes humans tick, this book will help you to change habits (even financial ones) into positive life-changing habits that will get you to reach the goals you aspire to.
Epic Book #3 – Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki

Our favourite quote from the book:
“All of us were given two gifts: your mind and your time. It is up to you to do what you please with both.”
Why you should read it:
Everyone has heard of this book, however few people have read it. Those who have, have learned to change their perception towards finances. Kiyosaki dives deep into hard hitting assumptions that middle-, and lower-class citizens have towards education, assets, financial laws and their own money management. If you can change your preconceptions that you were taught, you can change your financial future. This book also has follow-up books with extra notes which are a must-buy after you finish this one.
Epic Book #4 – The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma

Our favourite quote from the book:
“Upon learning these timeless truths, you must return to your homeland in the West and share this wisdom with all those who need to hear it. Though we are isolated here in these magical mountains, we are aware of the turmoil your world is in. Good people are losing their way. You must give them the hope they deserve. More importantly, you must give them the tools to fulfil their dreams. This is all I ask.”
Why you should read it:
Some people learn through another person’s journey, and if you are such a person, this is your book. The writing style is nostalgic and wildly descriptive yet so hard hitting. By the end of the book, your perception of life will be unbelievably changed, and you will understand greater laws of life which will benefit you. The journey of Julian Mantle is captivating, and you could easily sit with this book until early hours of the morning. One of the fundamental truths found in the book are the power of repetitive thoughts, how to change the narrative and of course change your life.
Epic Book #5 – The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris

Our favourite quote from the book:
“It just so happens, paradoxically, that you can make more money – a lot more money – by doing half of what you are doing now.”
Why you should read it:
What is the ‘new rich’ and why should it matter to you? Ferris refers to the old method of money hunting as a lemming approach – holding onto your money after years of 9 – 5 just so that you can have some money to spend carefully in your old age. He gently coaxes you into changing your assumptions about what is possible and what is not. This book gives you the freedom to fly in the direction that you choose. Live a life that is comfortable and not governed by rules that others make. Take a well-informed risk and dare to live your dream of happiness.
