Ever since Gunn named his comic book influences for his Superman movie, fans have been speculating about how each story could be represented in the film. James Gunn’s Comic Inspirations for Superman Are On-Point
The New Superman Movie Arrives July 2025
The quality of each story speaks to James Gunn’s fandom and appreciation of comics as a medium. For so long, fans saw their favorite characters and stories adapted for the screen by filmmakers who threw out everything that made them special in the first place, so it’s gratifying to have someone like Gunn at the wheel. Of course, film and TV are completely different storytelling mediums from comics, so things will have to be adjusted and changed along the way, but it’s still nice to know that Gunn is starting from a place of pure love and respect.
Now that filming has officially wrapped on Superman, the media campaign promoting the film should be starting up any day now. It’s smart for DC to get the announcement of the Superman Box Set out this early, even though it won’t release until ten months later. 2025 looks to be the year of Superman, so it’s nice that DC will put out a nice set of some of the character’s best stories available in one place.
The Superman Box Set is available June 24th, 2025 from DC Comics.
