Just months before its official release, the highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 video game Space Marine 2 seemingly leaks online. The sequel to the cult-classic third-person shooter has been in development for several long years now and as the Warhammer player base has grown in size over the last decade, it’s quickly shot up the ranks of exciting 2024 releases even for those who may not be familiar with the lore-dense franchise. Despite its launch being just over a month away, it seems Space Marine 2 has run into an issue a Boltgun can’t fix.
Per Insider Gaming, a full dev version of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 surfaced online with footage of the near-complete build quickly making its way to YouTube. While the source of the leak is currently unknown, several people close to the situation reportedly stated that the early version is about 75GB and is playable in its entirety, including systems that could even allow friends to play together. The video highlighting the leak has since been delisted due to copyright claims as developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have yet to issue a statement on the situation.

Why Is Everyone So Excited For Space Marine 2?
It’s A Great Premise For A Shooter
The world of Warhammer 40K is one of rampant devastation and war which makes it the perfect setting for a video game dedicated to gunning down droves of alien creatures. The original Space Marine video game, which was released in 2011, earned a decent following for its visceral melee combat and chunky gunplay as players stepped into the role of Captain Titus who embarks upon a quest to slay many Orks and the forces of Chaos. Its campaign was tight and fun while the overall experience was also bolstered by a fantastic multiplayer mode that’s still enjoyed a decade later.
As for Space Marine 2, the promotional material portrays the sequel as being a true successor by expanding on everything the original did well and trimming the aspects that were less enjoyable. Rather than battling waves of Orks, the Ultramarines are instead deployed to eradicate a force of ever-hungry Tyranids with an assortment of massive weapons. The combat looks much faster and smoother, providing fans with the fantasy of becoming a super soldier in the grim, dark future.
As exciting as it may be to return to the story of Captain Titus and his Ultramarines, it’s worth noting that downloading this version of the game is a bad idea. Not even taking into consideration the fact that a dedicated team of creators has spent years working on this project only to have it released with their consent, it’s possible that the files floating around online are plagued with malware. It’s better to just wait until September 9 to play the latest Warhammer 40K game when it drops on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
