How To Complete White Mask Varré’s Questline

White Mask Varré is the seemingly friendly yet eerie NPC in Elden Ring that Tarnished pilgrims will first encounter at the start of their adventure in the Lands Between. Standing near ‘First Steps’ Site of Grace, Varré will gently welcome the protagonist to the world as a new hopeless, maidenless adventurer. He will direct them to Stormveil, where they must face and defeat Godrick the Grafted.

While he may seem like a minor side character with little to say, White Mask Varré has a brief yet intriguing questline for Tarnished who follow it. The first step of White Mask Varré’s questline in Elden Ring is beating Godrick. After defeating Margit or gaining access to the Roundtable Hold, the players can revisit him to hear some new dialogue, but this is not required to progress his story.

How To Complete White Mask Varré’s Questline In Elden Ring

Meet Him At Rose Church in Liurnia

Once the Demigod of Stormveil has been vanquished, you will gain access to the Roundtable Hold, where you can speak with Two Fingers. From this point, the mysterious White Mask Varré will move locations, and Tarnished will meet him a second time at the Rose Church in Liurnia.

The Rose Church is located on an island between the Raya Lucaria Academy and the Village of the Albinaurics. After arrival, the player will find Varré standing in front of the ruined chapel’s entrance.

Invade Other Players Or NPCs

He will give the protagonist five Festering Bloody Fingers , which permits you to invade another player’s world, introducing Elden Ring‘s PvP mode into your gameplay. While Varré tasks you with invading three other players, keep in mind that it will not matter whether the player succeeds or is killed during their invasion attempts.

To
complete Varré’s offline questline
, you can invade a single NPC near the Writheblood Ruins on the Altus Plateau. To do this, activate the Summon Sign on the ground to invade Magnus the Beast Claw. However, it might still be easier to invade other players, as accessing the Altus Plateau requires finding both halves of the Dectus Medallion.

After using three fingers and completing three invasions, speak to Varré again in front of the Rose Church. He will then request Anoint players to be new servants of Mohg and task Tarnished with soaking a cloth called Lord of Blood’s Favor in a Finger Maiden’s blood.

Find A Dead Maiden

There are two options for completing this mission. First, adventurers can travel to the Church of Inhibition atop the mountain south of the Grand Lift of Dectus. It is north of the Frenzied Flame Village and northeast of Liurnia of the Lakes, not too far from Varré’s current location.

In the church, a dead maiden lies against the pillar on the left, who can provide the required blood. Players can also pick up the Finger Maiden Armor Set from her remains.

Along the path to the church grounds, you will be invaded by Festering Fingerprint Vyke, whom you must defeat before proceeding into the church. Although this battle is not particularly difficult, players should touch the nearby Site of Grace as a precautionary measure.

Alternatively, Tarnished can travel to the Chapel of Anticipation in the game’s starting area by activating the second Sending Gate at The Four Belfries in West Liurnia. Lying on the floor within the chapel are the remains of a maiden that can stain the Lord of Blood‘s Favor.

Give Varré Your Finger

Next, in a gruesome scene, Varré will present the player with their finger as the Bloody Finger by removing it from you as a symbolic gesture. In return, he will give Tarnished the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, a usable item that will immediately teleport the player to the Mohgwyn Palace near the ‘Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance’ Site of Grace.

This is a challenging area, so make sure to touch the Site of Grace if you plan to leave and return later in the game. Coming back during the mid-to-late stages, when you’re better leveled and equipped, will prepare you to handle this area more effectively and simultaneously defeat
Mohg, Lord of Blood
, to begin the
Shadow of the Erdtree
DLC.

How To Defeat White Mask Varré In Elden Ring

Invade Him At Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum

From the Mausoleum’s entrance, players must go to the ‘Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint’ Site of Grace. This can be reached by following the stairway path and either fighting through or bypassing the surrounding enemies. After passing a cluster of gravestones, you will encounter a dark entrance. The Site of Grace is located on the other side of the corridor.

Within the central marsh of Mohgwyn Palace, on your way to the Site of Grace, another version of Varré, Nameless White Mask, will attempt to invade the player twice. Once his second invasion has been foiled, Tarnished will receive his armor set in Elden Ring, the War Surgeon Set.

Inside the tunnel, right before the Site of Grace, you will find a red Invasion Sign on the floor. First, touch the Site of Grace to ensure an easy and swift return, avoiding the need to backtrack. Then, interact with the Invasion Sign in Elden Ring to invade Varré’s world.

While Varré isn’t too difficult to defeat,

on YouTube notes that his hammer inflicts significant Bleed damage. If the Bleed bar fills up, it will result in death. Additionally, he occasionally uses fire attacks. Be sure to dodge these moves and strike him repeatedly, as he is prone to staggering.

After defeating Varré, return to the corridor behind the ‘Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint’ Site of Grace, where you initially found his Invasion Sign. You will find his wounded body on the floor, gasping for strength from Mohg. He will die upon exhausting his dialogue, allowing you to collect 6 Festering Bloody Fingers and acquire Varré’s Bouquet Hammer, thereby completing his questline in Elden Ring.
