How To Unlock The Dung Eater Puppet In Elden Ring

You Need To Progress Through Dung Eater’s & Seluvis’ Questlines

You can start their endeavor to turn Dung Eater into your Puppet by first collecting a single Seedbed Curse. In total, there are five of these scattered across the game – three of them are in Leyndell Royal Capital, one in the Volcano Manor, and two in Elphael Brace of the Haligtree. After obtaining one, you can bring it to Dung Eater, who can be found in the room next door to the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold. He will provide Tarnished the Sewer-Gaol Key, which can be used to open his cell within the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds.

Dung Eater’s room in the Roundtable Hold is initially locked and only opens up once you reach Altus Plateau in
Elden Ring
and interact with one of the Sites of Grace therein.

After entering his hidden prison cell in Leyndell’s lower areas and speaking with him, you must return to his room in the Roundtable Hold to find his message, telling players to challenge him at the small moat section west of the Capital Rampart. After defeating him and acquiring his Sword of Milos Greatsword in Elden Ring, you are encouraged to return to him again in the Roundtable Hold and exhaust his dialogue. Finally, go back to his cell in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds to make sure he’s now tied to a chair.

The next step is to begin Ranni’s questline by speaking with her in Ranni’s Rise. After speaking with her associates’ spirits, go to Seluvis’ Rise and talk to Preceptor Seluvis to receive Seluvis’ Potion. He will task the player with giving this potion to Nepheli Loux, but you should instead give it to Dung Eater in his cell.

Afterward, purchase all of Seluvis’ Sorceries and read his message within his secret Puppet Lab northwest of Ranni’s Rise. Return to him and receive one of the Puppets. Then, summon it and return to Seluvis to request another Puppet. He should have the Dung Eater Puppet for sale for 5 Starlight Shards in Elden Ring.

If you have progressed through Ranni’s questline first, be sure to hold onto Seluvis’ potion until Dung Eater is tied to his chair. If you have given Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade, you will be blocked out of the Dung Eater Puppet during this campaign.

If you have followed all the steps correctly so far, it can be somewhat difficult to find Seluvis’ Secret Lab without proper guidance. This location is protected by an illusion and a stalking dragon – if you have not defeated them yet. Leaving Ranni’s Rise and heading forward inclined to the left, somewhat in the direction of Renna’s Rise, you will find a building in ruins. There, you should roll over or strike the stone area until the illusion dissipates and a path downward is revealed.

For reference, the opening in the ground is between the two rows of pillars on the part that is composed mainly of stone as opposed to the nearby dirt and cobble. You should be wary of a surprise enemy that spawns once you get close to the area. Nevertheless, once you dispel the illusion on the ground, following the path will lead you straight into Seluvis’ Secret Lab in Elden Ring.

Despite its stalking presence and proximity to the lab, the Glintstone Dragon Adula fight can be avoided entirely if you desire. Be sure to use Torrent to move quickly from Ranni’s Rise toward the lab’s location.

How & Why You Should Use Dung Eater Puppet Spirit Ashes In Elden Ring

The Summon Can Be A Great Alternative To The Mimic Tear Ashes

As was previously mentioned, the Dung Eater Puppet Spirit Ashes is one of the best summons in the game and is perfect for tough encounters due to its sturdiness. The character becomes even better with its powerful Sword of Milos, which can debuff enemies. For players who are looking for a tanky and aggressive companion to take the brunt of the enemy’s attacks and possibly even draw attention away from them, the Dung Eater Puppet is a great option. This is particularly good for mage builds, which often stand further away from boss encounters in Elden Ring.

With Dung Eater, the summon rushes toward the opponent, attacks and debuffs them and keeps their focus away from you. Meanwhile, you can cast a barrage of spells from afar, for example. Of course, the tank status held by Dung Eater serves even melee-focused characters and those who use close-range Incantations. Essentially, Dung Eater will serve as a meaty distraction while you ravage through an enemy’s health bar.

Of course, Dung Eater is one of many good Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring. However, its unique set of skills and high rate of survivability make it an enticing option, especially if you are starting to grow weary of using Mimic Tear Ashes. The summon that is, essentially, a copy of your own character is one of the best in the game since it copies your entire loadout and, if you are well-built, you will have two of you fighting a boss at the same time.

However, a copy of yourself can be quite flimsy, depending on your build, even if you upgrade Mimic Tear Ashes to the maximum level. This is where the Dung Eater Puppet sets itself apart. This is one of the most worthwhile summons you can go after in the game, despite how much work you need to put in to actually unlock Dung Eater Puppet. Nevertheless, it can completely change how you play the game. Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
