How To Install (& Play) The Extra Roles Mod In Among Us.

Role mods for Among Us have gained an impressive amount of traction in the world of online streaming, and though many of these mods are exclusive to content creators, some have made it to the broader community. Popular role mods introduce special jobs for crewmates to complete in addition to their regular tasks, often including a new ability that empowers them against the Impostors.

The Extra Roles Mod adds four familiar crewmate roles into a single game, is available for public download, and is compatible with the official InnerSloth servers, provided all players have it installed in their game files. Introducing crewmate roles can shake up the traditional Among Us playstyle while players wait for the next updates. Here’s how to download, install, and play the Extra Roles Mod for Among Us.

The Extra Roles Mod is only available for PC players; Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch users won’t be able to download it.

How To Download and Install the Extra Roles Mod

Players must complete several steps to get the Extra Roles Mod, with the installation process directed by NotHunter101, the mod’s creator. Fortunately, they have provided a video tutorial on their YouTube page, Among Us Extra Roles.

Modders must first Download the mod from NotHunter101’s Releases tab on GitHub (or Amods Us) and select the most recent version. Then, enter your Downloads folder (or the location of the downloaded .rar mod files) and open them with WinRar.

WinRar is essential to installing the Extra Roles mod for
Among Us
. If you do not already have the program, you can download the latest version on its official website, WinRar.com.

Proceed to open Steam and navigate to your Library, which will be in the top left corner of your screen. Right-click Among Us in the Library, find Manage and click Browse Local Files. Drag all the mod files into the Among Us directory, the folder that contains Among Us.exe.

At this point, players can finally launch Among Us, which may take a few moments to load up. Once in the game, look in the top left of the main menu screen and ensure it reads Mods: 3 and Extra Roles Mod vX.X.X Loaded, with X.X.X being the current mod version number.

With the mod successfully installed, players can proceed to play Local or Online modes in Among Us, with the introduction of new and intriguing roles to explore in your gameplay.

Players can also join the Discord Server, Extra Roles AU Mod, for the mod to get technical support and report any bugs.

The Extra Roles mod brings four roles randomly assigned to crewmates every game. Most of these roles function similarly to their standalone role mod versions, bringing more drama, excitement, and challenges to the Social Deduction multiplayer game.

Medic

Unlike the Doctor role mod, the Medic in the Extra Roles mod can grant any crewmate a shield that makes them immortal until the Medic dies. Medics can also receive a report when they find a dead body that gives clues about the killer’s identity. If they find the body within the allocated time, they may even get to see the name of the killer in the report.

The type of information Medics get is based on a timer that can be configured inside the lobby.

Officer

Like the Sheriff in Among Us, the Officer is a class of Crewmates whose goal is to find the Impostor and deliver justice. Like Imposters, however, officers can kill anyone else they perceive to be the Impostor, possibly drawing unwanted attention to themselves. If the Officer accidentally shoots a crewmate, they will die instead.

Officers can shoot the Joker, with or without repercussions, if players use the mod’s default settings.

Engineer

Engineers can repair one sabotage emergency per game from anywhere on the map without having to cease completing a task. They can also use vents that were initially exclusive to Impostors. Engineers pose great opponents against Imposters and add a challenging layer, ruining the Imposters’ progress in sabotaging Crewmates’ objectives.

Joker

Like the Jester mode in Among Us, the Joker isn’t on the crewmates’ or the Impostors’ side. Instead, they are out to win the game for themselves and must convince the others to eject them, instantly ending the game if they are voted off the ship.

Unlike the standalone Jester role, the Joker will not receive any tasks to complete, allowing them to look even more suspicious. The rest of the gameplay in this mod mirrors the classic version of Among Us.

Mod Features & Settings

The mod has some default settings that lobby hosts can tweak, allowing you to customize your game in Among Us. In the default settings, all role identities are hidden from other players. However, players can see the one whom the Medic has shielded, and the shielded player will hear a noise indicating any time another player has tried (and failed) to kill them while under protection.

Other default settings include a five-second time frame from when a character is killed for the Medic to open the report and see the killer’s name and a twenty-second time frame for them to see their color type (lighter or darker hue).

The default settings ensure that every game includes all four roles. Users can change settings to suit their group’s play styles and make the game more or less challenging.

Players may need to start a non-official server if the InnerSloth official servers’ Among Us anti-cheat and hacks software prevents the use of some features in the mod. There are resources available on the mod page to help players get started.
