Hungry Howie’s continues to thrive, building upon its success as a top pizza brand and proven legacy franchise—one community at a time.
It’s a mozzarella-with-a-mission attitude that resonates across a vibrant nationwide base of over 530 Hungry Howie’s locations in 21 states, most notably with the brand’s signature philanthropic effort, Love, Hope & Pizza.
The Michigan-based chain’s long-standing commitment to the fight against breast cancer takes place each October when Hungry Howie’s yellow pizza boxes turn pink, with proceeds benefitting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. For every pink pizza box purchased, Hungry Howie’s makes a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. During checkout, guests may also round up their total checks to the nearest dollar.
Love, Hope & Pizza has raised nearly $4.5 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, spreading stories of hope shared online during the month-long effort. The head office, franchisees, and employees embrace the campaign.
“You have engaged the heartstrings of your customers, your franchisees, and your employees,” says Danae Johnson, NBCF’s Vice President of Development. “I love a story element to it. People are given a platform to share how they have been personally affected by breast cancer. Something that money can’t buy is being able to share your story and create an environment where everyone feels connected. That’s just priceless.”
Franchise owners recently came together for the Hungry Howie’s annual convention, where Steve Jackson, President and CEO, presented a check for nearly $500,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. There was much to celebrate at the brand’s first in-person gathering in three years, with soaring sales and the top 25% of stores closing in on an average unit volume of $1.3 million in 2021.
Franchise partners are bullish on the brand set to mark its 50th anniversary in 2023. Seasoned restaurant management industry veterans Robert Wasden and Randall Moran, who originally hail from Florida, are long-time fans of Hungry Howie’s. After experiencing success with the 2021 purchase of an existing Hungry Howie’s location in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the multi-unit franchisees were ready for more growth.
The duo has had a busy fall opening restaurants back-to-back in Clayton and a second Fayetteville location. The pair are already looking for more opportunities to expand the Hungry Howie’s name in North Carolina.
“Robert and Randall have a strong desire to grow and set a high standard for community involvement,” said Steve Clough, Director of Franchise Development at Hungry Howie’s. “We’re not just in the pizza business; we’re also in the people business of building relationships with our customers and becoming a pillar of the community. Randall and Robert are a great representation of Hungry Howie’s company values, and we look forward to their continued success in North Carolina.”
Backed by exceptional leadership, world-class franchise support, and a loyal following, Hungry Howie’s remains future focused on partnering with a new generation of franchisees. The originator of Flavored Crust® pizza is driving expansion with an industry-leading Strategic Growth Partner Incentive offer for multi-unit operators with a minimum three-store commitment and enticements of up to $150,000 in discounted royalties.
