Mr. Eid Ran His Eponymous Insurance Brokerage in Worcester For Over 40 Years
Richard “Dick” Eid, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a standout athlete at Classical High and Worcester Academy. He attended the University of Massachusetts, where he played baseball and basketball. He was named to the UMass All-Era Basketball Team and is a member of the Worcester Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame.
Dick started his professional career at Hamilton Standard in Springfield, Massachusetts where he met his loving wife, Joan (née) Conley. A few years later, Dick started his own insurance brokerage firm, based in Worcester, which he ran for over forty years.
Dick was active in several local and charitable organizations. He was the President of The Board of Trustees for Worcester City Hospital and a member of the Worcester Redevelopment Authority, the Worcester Airport Commission and the Kiwanis Club of Worcester. He was also an avid golfer, sports fan and cook, but will be remembered most for his deep love of family and friends.
He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Joan, his daughter Sharon (Leominster), her husband Frank Filizzola, his son Rick (Los Angeles), Rick’s wife Natalie, his four grandchildren (Krista, Maggie, Jack and Karina), his sister Carol Hadfield, her husband James, as well many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Robert and Walter. Dick was the youngest son of the late Elias and Alice Eid, née Abusamra.
