Lupita Nyong’o’s stunning Storm cosplay proves she would be a great candidate to play the Omega-level mutant in the MCU‘s X-Men movie. Marvel Studios is only beginning to introduce mutantkind, with a handful of mutants already in the MCU and Deadpool & Wolverine‘s titular heroes starring in their own Phase 5 movie. Although Marvel’s focus is currently placed on the multiverse, an MCU X-Men movie is already in the works, and it’s expected to feature all of the most essential members of the X-Men, including Ororo Munroe a.k.a. Storm.
Actor Lupita Nyong’o shared a few photos of her Halloween costume on her Instagram. For 2024, Nyong’o chose to cosplay Storm, wearing a black velvet blazer, with black pants and a black top, gold jewelry, a black headband, white hair, and white eye lenses. Nyong’o completes her formal Storm look with a set of long white nails. See the images below:
What Lupita Nyong’o’s Storm Cosplay Means
Throughout a little more than a decade, Halle Berry played Storm in Fox’s X-Men franchise, which presented the first live-action iteration of Ororo Munroe and her fellow X-Men heroes. Although Berry’s Storm is a memorable character in the X-Men movies, there is still a lot the MCU’s version of the X-Men can improve. For one, Storm’s muted appearance in Fox’s X-Men films doesn’t do her majestic comic book look justice. Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong’o’s Halloween costume highlights Storm’s distinctive traits, including her wild hair, her striking white eyes, and her penchant for jewelry.

Marvel’s Newest X-Men Return Comments Have Raised My Hopes The MCU Can Finally Get 1 Hero Right After 18 Years
Marvel’s recent X-Men adaptations give me hope that the studio could get another mutant right if a veteran actor reprises his role in the MCU.
Lupita Nyong’o’s Storm cosplay doesn’t suggest that she’ll play Storm in the MCU’s X-Men reboot. Celebrities tend to dress up as famous characters for Halloween, and some Marvel actors have even cosplayed different characters than the ones they play on screen. For instance, Loki actor Tom Hiddleston and Daredevil actor Charlie Cox exchanged costumes for Halloween 2019. Incidentally, The Marvels‘ Dar-Benn actor Zawe Ashton cosplayed Captain Marvel a few years prior to being cast as Carol Danvers’ second MCU antagonist.
Our Take On Lupita Nyong’o’s Storm Cosplay
Lupita Nyong’o Can Technically Play Storm Despite Playing Another MCU Character
Lupita Nyong’o played Nakia in the MCU’s Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This doesn’t forbid her from playing another MCU character, as other actors have already played unrelated dual roles in the franchise before. However, Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia had a romantic relationship with T’Challa and gave birth to his son Toussaint off-screen. Since Storm has been married to T’Challa in the comics, it could be confusing for some Marvel fans to see Lupita Nyong’o play two of Black Panther’s romantic partners in the same continuity. Hence, Nyong’o is unlikely to be considered for the MCU’s Storm.
