Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has smashed its way onto the small screen in season 1, and there are interesting developments regarding season 2. Set within Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters takes place in the aftermath of Godzilla’s battle against the MUTOS in San Francisco during 2014’s Godzilla. The series follows two siblings who uncover their family’s secret connection to an organization known as Monarch that has known about the existence of giant monsters for generations. As a series, Legacy of Monsters serves as a bridge between the MonsterVerse’s myriad of films.
With early returns being largely positive, the Apple TV+ original puts the focus on the characters while also adding in a heaping helping of kaiju action for good measure. While Monarch fixes some concerns about the MonsterVerse by clearing up timeline issues, it also represents the next big step in the massive movie franchise as it branches out into TV. The long-term plan for the MonsterVerse is becoming clearer and clearer, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could be the cornerstone by which the next handful of movies are measured. This makes a second season of the show not only possible, but almost necessary.
Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Latest News
A Season 1 Cast Member Is Confirmed For Season 2
With news finally starting to trickle in about the upcoming sophomore season, the latest update sees Monarch season 2 confirm a returning character. Actor Dominique Tipper appeared throughout season 1 as the shady Apex operative Brenda Holland, and now she has confirmed that both her character and Apex will be back in season 2. While simultaneously confirming her character’s return, Tipper also expressed her hope that Holland will be more multidimensional in the upcoming season, and operate in “gray areas” of morality.
See Holland’s full comments below:
I don’t know if I’m allowed to say, actually. No – I am. Yes, I am, because Chris Black, the creator, he mentioned it at the upfront, so yes: you will see more of Brenda Holland. I don’t really know what her storyline is entirely just yet, but I hope we get to see a lot more different sides of her ethics and her morality. But again, I don’t actually know, so this is just my own wishes for the character.
Because I think we’ve seen one side of her, and she’s the main antagonist in a way, so I’m interested to see what else we get to see from her in season 2, and how that then contrasts with the lead characters, or if it doesn’t. I love gray areas. I think that’s always what makes characters great, when you’re just like, “Oh, I kind of agree with her on this point, but not that one.” More of that, really, and more fabulous outfits, because I think it’s the first time I’ve worn heels on screen.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Cast
Expect Most Of The Main Cast To Return
The cast of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was one of its strongest aspects, and fortunately, most of the ensemble can return in season 2. With story details still unknown, it isn’t clear if the characters of season 1 will be the focus or if it will shift away. However, if the original cast returns, fans could see nearly everyone come back even if they died in season 1. Kurt Russell’s Lee Shaw sacrificed himself to help his friends escape the Hollow Earth, but he could always return in flashbacks, or he could have survived his supposed death.
There have been a few confirmed returns already for the sophomore outing, and Anna Sawai has all but confirmed her return as Cate Randa when she offered production updates. Furthermore, Dominique Tipper appeared throughout season 1 as shady Apex operative Brenda Holland, and Tipper has confirmed that Holland will play a role in season 2, as will Apex.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Story
A Kong Tease & Even More Monster Mayhem
The ending of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 1 caught up with the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but there is still plenty of timeline to fill in season 2. The sophomore outing could go even further back in Monarch’s timeline and explore earlier encounter with Titans. Or, it could continue its character-driven focus and follow Cate, Tim, and Keiko as they crusade against Monarch’s conspiracy in the modern day.
Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could refocus on the MonsterVerse’s other titanic figure, Kong. Though nothing is confirmed yet, Kong would be the perfect way to continue the series into season 2, as his lone standalone film, Kong: Skull Island, lends the character of Bill Randa (John Goodman) to Monarch in both the past and present. Regardless, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 has a lot to work with, especially with the new lore from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
