Why did you choose to franchise with a service brand?

I chose a franchise over starting a local business because I wanted to shorten the learning curve. I knew there would be aspects of the business that would be completely new to me, and there was no reason for me to try to learn it when someone else in the system was already an expert.

How did you choose the sector and brand you did?

We started in the mosquito control industry because the entire industry is still young and we saw an opportunity for tremendous growth.

What different skill sets are required for service brand franchising?

A lot of the same skills are needed in a service brand as in other industries. But in my opinion, the talent that sets us apart is the desire to help people, whether that is your customers, your employees, or a random person on the street.

What are the advantages of choosing a service brand?

I think there are two significant advantages to choosing a service brand. First, as Millennials and Gen Zers age and become homeowners, the need for service brands will be in demand more and more. The second is the many service brands proved their worth and were deemed essential businesses during the pandemic and did not suffer a disruption in their operations.

How does having a second service brand benefit or complement your other brand?

We felt that adding Pest Authority to our Mosquito Authority franchise was a natural fit. From an operational aspect, it was two services that could be done by the same specialists on the same trip. From a customer perspective, it gives them the advantage of getting all their pest control services from the same company.

What would you recommend to anyone considering a service brand?

Don’t wait! All service brands are growing tremendously. It is a very popular sector, with millions of dollars of investment from private equity groups in service brand franchises over the past few years.
