If you’re into saving money, you probably use coupons. I use them for restaurants, gas, furniture purchases, and much more. One of the main ways I like to use coupons is grocery shopping. But using coupons it’s not the only way to save money on grocery purchases. Have you heard about price matching? Whether you have or have not, here are some quick tips for grocery price matching.
What is Price Matching?
Price matching happens when you find an item you want to purchase at one store and locate a better price at another. Often stores will allow you to show a competitor’s ad or price listing and get the price match. Typically, they will match the price plus give you an additional 10% to 20% off. It’s a great tool to utilize when trying to save money on grocery shopping.
Know The Stores Policy
Price matching policy varies from store to store. You must know the policy of the store you are going to before you get there. That includes whether or not you can price match after you have already made a purchase, which competitors they will match, and how much off you can receive. Be sure to note whether you can match published store ads and competitors on the internet, as well as match to the store’s own online website.
Have Your Proof Ready
After you locate the store policy and memorize it, be ready to gather proof of your claim. Make sure you bring proof of the item’s price difference from another competitor. That includes a picture of a competing ad, the physical copy, or the webpage where the price difference is shown. Without proof, you will not receive a discount.
Be Sure Your Items Are Identical
You have to be careful when you’re trying to price-match an item. Take note of the item’s UPC, description, and name. Be sure that all of that information syncs up with the competing price you found. If the items are not identical, you will not receive a price match difference. Stores are very strict about this rule!
