Realtors and Technology: What’s Used Most?


Top of the list: smartphones, email, and social media or GPS apps. In addition, 19 out of 20 (94%) agents text customers but also call (92%) or send email (90%).

CHICAGO – Real estate professionals use several technology platforms daily to highlight their business and stay connected to clients, according to the National Association of Realtors’ (NAR) 2022 Member Profile.

Smartphones and email are key tools that facilitate most connections, and 53% of Realtors also use social media apps or GPS features daily. The survey further found that 94% of Realtors prefer to communicate with their clients through text messages, followed by telephone (92%) or email (90%). About 27% of Realtors prefer video chats to connect with customers.

When it comes to websites, about 84% of Realtors include their own property listings on their residential brokerage website, along with:

  • Home buying and selling information
  • Links to their brokerage’s website
  • Social media links
  • Mortgage or financial calculators

Commercial brokerage specialists were more likely to include links to the commercial information exchange and NAR, virtual tours and a comparative market analysis on their websites.

In NAR’s survey, Realtors considered websites a key tool, but 57% reported no inquiries or business brought in directly from their website; 27% cited one to five inquiries from their website.

NAR also found that 63% of Realtors use MLS software every day. Other types of regularly used software include electronic contracts and forms, e-signature, document preparation, contact management and social media management tools.
