Summary
- Don Lothario from The Sims has hit Tinder in a hilarious ad campaign for the new Lovestruck expansion.
- Don’s fake profile is brilliantly crafted, featuring the hallmarks of many an awful dating app match.
- The ad perfectly reflects the game’s dramatized take on reality, and is the latest in a long line of similar campaigns.
The biggest flirt in all SimNation has jumped right out of The Sims 4 and into a real-world dating app. The life simulation game will soon celebrate the release of its Lovestruck Expansion Pack, which features a plethora of new options for falling in and out of love. Players can now use an in-game dating app – Cupid’s Corner, plan detailed dates with their matches, discover each other’s Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs, and even become professional matchmakers.
And, as shared in a Reddit post by Eggs-Eggs, in order to promote the new Expansion Pack, The Sims‘ own Don Lothario has officially come to Tinder. Users of the dating app may catch sight of the smooth talker while browsing their potential matches. If they do give Don Lothario a like, they’ll match immediately – of course, he swipes right on everyone. He’ll even message them to say “Za woka genava,” (“I think you’re hot” in Simlish) before hitting them with a “You up? Don follows that move by inviting them over for a romantic night under the stars in his very own hot tub, after which the message simply links to the pre-order page for the Lovestruck expansion.
Why The Don Lothario Sims 4 Campaign Is Perfect
The Lovestruck Campaign Is The Latest In A Long Line Of Weird Sims Ads
As the title of the original Reddit post admits, this kind of advertising usually provokes little more than an eye roll and a leftward swipe. Other companies, brands, and works of popular culture have used fake Tinder profiles as an advertising method before, and it’s usually just intrusive, an obstacle to real-life romance. But this particular ad is brilliantly executed, being a perfect marriage of dating app jargon and Sims-style humor. Between the classic tropes of fishing pictures and vague hints at a fear of commitment, the fake profile and message could easily pass for a real (if abysmal) Tinder bio. It’s absolutely in character for Don Lothario, and, admittedly, very funny.

How To Use The Sims 4 Relationship Cheats (Friendship, Romance, Pets)
By using relationship cheats in The Sims 4, players can modify how close or apart a Sim is with another NPC, their romantic interest, or a pet.
As a result, this ad has crossover appeal. Longtime players of The Sims are sure to recognize Don Lothario’s crooked smirk, and swipe right, if only to see what honeyed words fall out of his mouth this time. Those unfamiliar are liable to be intrigued (or maybe a little creeped out) by the fake profile, and thus inclined to investigate further.
Plus, it’s not the first time a Sims game has used a similar strategy in advertising, blending details from the game with familiar realities in order to create a humorous juxtaposition. For example, a campaign for The Sims 2, posted on Reddit by usagi_in_wonderland, superimposes the archetypal pie menu on top of real-life awkward situations – including the Lovestruck-worthy wrinkle of discovering one’s partner cheating. While these ads do acknowledge the similarities between The Sims and real life, they also point to the absurd differences.
And ultimately, that’s what The Sims is all about. It’s a common misconception to think of The Sims as some hyper-accurate representation of reality. It actually presents a heightened take on reality that, while familiar, is much more dramatic and much less serious. The Don Lothario Tinder ad campaign wraps that all up into a neat, consumer-friendly package. It’s the perfect encapsulation of the Lovestruck expansion, not to mention what so many love about The Sims 4 to begin with.
