Warning! Clark Kent always tries to do the right thing, but his latest escapade has put him in between saving a sentient AI and the full force of the United States.

In My Adventures with Superman #2 by Josie Campbell and Pablo M. Collar, Clark, Lois, and Jimmy sneak into Mt. Simonson Base to liberate Amazo after it was apprehended. As the trio searches for Amazo, Deathstroke sabotages the base by planting and triggering explosives.

Superman is Arrested for Treason by Bloodsport DC

Deathstroke, Bloodsport and Amazo get into a fight and Superman interrupts while in his Clark persona, knowing he’s putting his private life at risk. Clark convinces Amazo not to be the weapon the government wants him to be. Amazo jets off, but before Clark can rest, Bloodsport has Superman placed under arrest and charged with treason.

Superman Has Been Officially Charged with Treason Against America

Superman Gripping the American Flag

After Anthony Ivo’s attack on Metropolis in the first season of My Adventures with Superman, a mysterious figure began stalking the city, draining every bit of energy it could find. Superman and his pals teamed up to find what was doing this only to discover Amazo, a prototype Parasite suit designed by Ivo. But unlike Parasite, there was no one inside the Amazo suit other than a sentient AI. Superman fought the suit as it tried to communicate. Unfortunately, just as Superman realized it was asking for help, Bloodsport arrived to bring it into the United States military’s custody.

Fans may recall Superman’s classic slogan that reveals the things he fights for: Truth, justice, and the American way. But here, Clark actually goes against the ‘American way’ or at least the military’s, in order to save Amazo from being tortured and turned into a weapon. To be fair, even the Prime Superman has even dropped it in exchange for ‘a better tomorrow’. But this moment is a good example of why Superman can’t always support the ‘American way’. Above all else, Superman is always going to protect the innocent before automatically siding with any government, even his own.

The ‘American Way’ Isn’t Always Superman’s Way

The ‘American way’ aspect of Superman’s slogan was added during World War II and simply stuck. But truth and justice are the things that Clark fights for first and foremost. Superman isn’t strictly anti-government, but he’s not going to let an innocent being like Amazo be tortured just because it’s what his country’s military has decided. Even if it means facing a treason charge, it’s something Clark would do for anyone because truth and justice are the ideals Superman has always held close.
