Teen’s Powers In Agatha All Along Explained

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Agatha All AlongAfter toying with fans for 4 episodes, Agatha All Along has revealed Teen’s identity. Portrayed by Joe Locke, he is initially introduced as an aspiring magic user with a mysterious past. Teen later joins Agatha Harkness’ coven, consisting of Lillia Calderu (Patti Lupone), Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn), Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp), and later Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza). The young man is unable to say his name without a sigil somewhat resembling an M covering his mouth, which intrigues Agatha.

The intrigue surrounding Teen launched waves of fan speculation as to who he is, with a variety of theories sprouting up. Though some fans thought Teen could have been Agatha’s son, Nicholas Scratch, this got debunked in episode 4, when Rio expressly says “the boy is not yours” to Agatha. Now, after episode 5, it’s clear exactly who Teen is in Agatha All Along. The fledgling magic wielder is none other than the Scarlet Witch’s son: Billy Maximoff, also known as Wiccan or Billy Kaplan.

Teen Has Been Hiding His Identity In Agatha All Along

Wiccan Had Ulterior Motives For Befriending Agatha

The revelation that Teen is Wiccan occurred after Agatha tested her coven’s limits in another trial along the Witches’ Road. Each of the trials has centered around a different member of the coven, and this trial was Agatha’s. Because of her history with stealing powers and life force from others, she was punished by a test involving a Ouija board. In the process, she becomes possessed by her mother, who tells the other witches to leave Agatha behind. A tearful Agatha begs her coven to help save her, and when Alice tries, the other witch begins to siphon her powers.

Another spirit stirs, that of Nicholas. The boy pleads with his mother to stop, but she does not. Alice is completely drained of life, and now, the coven is against Agatha. Teen previously stood by Agatha, but killing Alice was a step too far for him. The two share the following exchange:

Teen: So that’s what it means to be a witch? Killing people to serve your own agenda? Not for me.

Agatha: Are you sure? You’re so much like your mother.

Agatha All Along doesn’t pause to let the reveal sink in. Teen angered by what she said, begins emitting blue magic from his fingertips. He seems to overshadow Lillia and Jennifer, who throw Agatha off of the Witches’ Road, and then they too are sent flying by Teen. All three women sink into the ground as a blue crown forms on Teen’s head, revealing he is indeed Wiccan.

The interesting catch here is that Billy seems fully aware of who he is. Earlier in Agatha All Along, it was unclear how much he knew about his past or who he was, with only vague details being shared. Wiccan’s behavior when called out by Agatha implies that he had ulterior motives the entire time.

Wiccan Displayed Powerful Magic In Just One Scene

The extent of Billy’s powers in Agatha All Along is unknown, but if the ending of episode 5 is anything to go off of, he could be a stronger witch than even Agatha. Without assuming anything beyond what is shown in both WandaVision and its spinoff, Wiccan’s powers are somewhat vaguely defined. He has some telekinesis, being able to launch Lilia and Jennifer. He is able to bend others to his will in a manner that resembles possession. In WandaVision, the younger Billy exhibits psychic abilities, having a premonition that Vision is in danger, and he is presumably telepathic.

These powers somewhat align with Wiccan’s comic counterpart, though the latter has demonstrated greater feats of power. In fact, Billy’s magical abilities rival those of his mother. It is uncertain whether Agatha All Along’s Wiccan will be as strong as the Scarlet Witch. However, the way his powers manifested a crown resembling his mother’s seem to indicate this possibility.

Billy Shares A Lot Of Abilities With The Scarlet Witch

Billy Kaplan as superhero Wiccan in Marvel Comics using magic

In the comics, Wiccan is a reincarnation of Billy Maximoff named Billy Kaplan. Even so, he retains the magical powers he presumably derives from his mother. Wiccan shares his MCU iteration’s powers of precognition, telekinesis, psionic energy projection, and possession, but he has a few additional abilities: elemental manipulation, healing, flight, and most importantly, reality warping, among others. The MCU has the potential to differentiate Billy from the source material depending on how they define his magic moving forward.

The Scarlet Witch has almost the same exact magic as Wiccan, so his powers could also be chaos magic. However, his powers present as blue instead of red. This is merely an aesthetic difference in the comics, but given Rio Vidal’s status as a Green Witch, the MCU’s Billy could also be one of these “special” witches.

Idle speculation aside, there are still a number of mysteries regarding Wiccan that need to be solved. Who placed the sigil on him? Why did he seek out Agatha? What would he gain from going down the Witches’ Road? How will his trial look? With 4 more episodes in this season of Agatha All Along, it’ll be interesting to watch Wiccan’s development.
