Since Gerry and Theresa announced their divorce, it appears that Gerry is trying to change his image with wholesome and family-oriented Instagram posts. However, the posts are met with backlash from fans who are still accusing him of chasing fame and being fake. In an Instagram post, Gerry lashed out at someone who left a negative comment about his charity work for AGAPE of Fishers, Indiana, an organization that provides therapy for children with disabilities using horses. The person wrote, “Who cares? Your few months of fame are up.”

Gerry responded passionately to the fan, writing, “You don’t care that challenged kids can find therapy to help them learn to walk? Or to learn how to speak? This is a charity for innocent kids working hard to be normal as they can be. I forgive your insensitivity.”Gerry was right to be upset that this person couldn’t look past The Golden Bachelor in order to see that he’s doing good work to help others.

However, The Golden Bachelor made it seem as though the show was the first time that Gerry had dated. In addition, the report stated that Gerry had broken up with the woman because she’d gained weight before his reunion. This, combined with his divorce from Theresa, turned Gerry into a villain in many fans’ eyes. No matter if Gerry posts about his family celebrating holidays such as Memorial Day or Father’s Day or his charity work, some fans still continue to attack him.

It would’ve been very interesting to see the dynamic between Gerry and Everett during The Golden Bachelor. While the show made a big deal out of the hometown and final dates being different from the traditional Bachelor and Bachelorette shows because Gerry and the contestants were meeting each other’s children and grandchildren rather than their parents, it neglected to mention that Gerry actually still has his father in his life. People have to remember that The Golden Bachelor is a TV show, and the real-life Gerry could never live up to the expectations that arose when the producers created the character of Gerry Turner for the show. If Theresa can move on from their divorce, then fans should too. Gerry deserves a second chance.
