Today’s Connections Category Hints

AUGUST 5 #420

Candy in Connections Categories August 5

There are a lot of Connections to be made daily, and today, there are two categories with a fair amount of overlap, as well as a group of three words that looks like a fake category. If you manage to avoid those, you can solve the puzzle. To help you do so, here are some hints about the categories:

  • One category has strong Hallmark vibes.
  • There is no category involving the word “get.
  • There is no category for all of the two-word combinations.
  • The two categories are very similar in nature, but one is more about comprehension than the other.

If you still need some category names, as there is a fair bit of challenge today, here they are:

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

SURVIVE

GET BY

HACK IT

MAKE DO

MANAGE

This category and the blue category could be easily interlaced or confused. They both involve getting by/getting it, and their closeness might make it confusing. However, remember that this category is just about survival. You do not have to comprehend it to MAKE DO; you just need to MANAGE to stay onboard. HACK IT is an odd word for an American to use, but it does fit in here more than anywhere else.

Green Answers: Revealed & Explained

KINDS OF GREETING CARDS

BIRTHDAY

CONGRATULATIONS

GET WELL

THANK YOU

The hallmark aisle of any store, or an actual Hallmark store, is going to be flooded with these types of cards. If you have ever been down such an aisle, you know exactly what I mean. This is probably the easiest category today, as it is distinct, and the words do not have much overlap, except with the potential two-word category that could be made from these words. However, THANK YOU and GET WELL feel distinct enough that it was easier to separate them than the others.

ARE WE CLEAR?

CAPISCE

GET IT

SEE

UNDERSTAND

As before, this category could be confused, especially with the presence of GET IT and possibly UNDERSTAND as well, due to some contexts of the word. However, CAPISCE was the real key to figuring this out for me, as it is a unique word and gives off the question vibe that the category name implies. There are not many other uses of the word in everyday use, so that was helpful in my quest to conquer the day’s puzzle.

Purple Answers: Revealed & Explained

WORDS AFTER “EYE”

CANDY

CONTACT

SHADOW

WITNESS

This one was not immediately obvious, but perhaps it should have been if I had considered these words a bit more. However, CONTACT and SHADOW having eye-related meanings was not as helpful as it should have been with the word SEE also on the board. However, once we got to this stage and entered the final answer, it was much more clear that these words were easier to connect than I initially thought. WITNESS or CANDY is probably the biggest hint here if you can connect the dots to the word “eye.”
