Summary
- Alfie Solomons, a fan-favorite character, could be returning in the
Peaky Blinders
movie. - Tom Hardy is ”
100%
” behind reprising his role as Alfie Solomons, adding to the anticipation for the upcoming film. - While Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby is confirmed to return, the presence of Alfie Solomons in the movie would further satisfy fans and help set up the Boston spinoff.
In the wake of its hugely popular 6-season run, Peaky Blinders is officially returning for a movie. Perhaps even more exciting to me is Tom Hardy’s interest in reprising his TV series role for the film. While addressing his Peaky Blinders movie return, Tom Hardy revealed that he wants to return as Alfie Solomons, saying he’s “100%” behind the idea, though he’s just “punting” at this point. So far, Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby is the only character confirmed to be returning for the film — even though Peaky Blinders season 6 suggested many characters’ returns.
Created by Steven Knight, the period-piece crime drama follows Murphy’s cunning Tommy Shelby, an ambitious crime boss who oversees an urban gang called Peaky Blinders. Set in the immediate aftermath of World War I, the series sees its titular gang tangling with authorities, expanding their criminal organization, entering the political arena, and navigating civil unrest. I was surprised when Peaky Blinders season 6 ending concluded on a mixed note: Although the Shelby family is fractured, there’s some promise in Tommy’s new path, which makes a Peaky Blinders movie all the more exciting — and very much needed.
Peaky Blinders Hardly Featured Alfie After Season 5 Revealed His Survival
Tom Hardy’s Peaky Blinders Character Is A Fan-Favorite
One of the characters who must return for Peaky Blinders‘ movie, Aflie Solomons is a fan-favorite personality. The owner of an illegal distillery and leader of a Jewish gang based in Camden Town, Alfie first appeared in Peaky Blinders season 2. After causing his fair share of strife, Alfie reveals to Tommy that he has life-threatening cancer. Wanting to die on his own terms, Alfie fires at Tommy, but is shot in the face. To me, the season 5 reveal that Alfie survived the incident was one of Peaky Blinders‘ more shocking moments, and it led to one of the show’s best team-ups.
I find that it’s always a treat to see Alfie appear on-screen with the rest of the
Peaky Blinders
crew…
Unfortunately, Alfie’s role in season 6 is much more minor, likely because of Tom Hardy’s other filming commitments. While we see him in the Cotton Club and again in the series’ final moments, he doesn’t make much of an impression. I find that it’s always a treat to see Alfie appear on-screen with the rest of the Peaky Blinders crew, so seeing him in the movie would be great. In addition to setting up a potential role for Hardy’s beloved character in the spinoff, the Peaky Blinders movie can satisfyingly conclude Alfie’s core story after several years.
