While the news of a collaboration between Tom Holland and Christopher Nolan is huge and exciting, it does appear to be a bad omen for a long awaited sequel that appears to be nowhere in sight. October 2024 has been an exciting month for Tom Holland as the young star has released his own line of non-alcoholic beers, confirmed that Spider-Man 4 is set to enter production soon, and now he is set to star in an upcoming film by legendary Hollywood director, Christopher Nolan. Nolan’s track record has seen him not only produce some of the most impressive films of all time, but also coaching top talent into Oscar winning performances.
While this is clearly exciting stuff for Holland, and the secretive collaboration is exciting for fans of the director’s work, it does appear to have a few drawbacks. Primarily, for projects that are outside of Nolan’s upcoming film and the MCU. Holland’s attachment to the Spider-Man character does mean that the young star is locked in to work with the studio for years to come, but some of his less notable films, like Uncharted may suffer the brunt of being pushed back due to these developments.

Just counting the MCU alone, Holland will certainly appear in Spider-Man 4, and it’s almost certain he will appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Those are two movies due to release in 2026, within months of eachother, and one in 2027. Then, the Nolan film is set to also come out in July 2026, which means Summer 2026 will be a huge month for Holland. Obviously, ahead of these films releasing, Holland will need to deliver his performance, record the film, which will likely fill out his schedule for most of 2025.

Why The Uncharted Sequel Is Taking So Long Despite $401 Million Box Office

As exciting as that may be for Holland, it does spell disaster for another blockbuster hit and its sequel. Uncharted came out in 2022, and the film managed to pull in a remarkable $401 million at the box office. For most movies, this is a huge figure, but for a debut film in a videogame adaptation, it was monumental. And as a result, many fans were excited to see where Nathan Drake would go next in a sequel. However, despite the huge box office, and the support for the film, there have been very few developments for Uncharted 2 in the last few years.
It does not seem likely that
Uncharted 2
will be able to slot into that packed schedule.
But now, with Holland’s schedule apparently booked up until mid to late 2027, that puts an even bigger buffer between the actor and reprising his role in the sequel. It’s not impossible, of course, and it may depend on how large his parts are in the Avengers movies, but it may be a lot to add a whole other franchise into the mix. However, it does not seem likely that Uncharted 2 will be able to slot into that packed schedule until Tom Holland’s work in the MCU and with Christopher Nolan settles down, potentially putting it much closer to 2030 than the next couple of years.
